Crawford is hitting a lot, Baldelli looks great, Delmon Young is hitting .370 in AAA and Gomes is young, cheap and better than most people give him credit for (Think Adam Dunn minus 8.65 million a year).

I don't follow the Rays very closely - how bad are his shoulders? Is it a "one-time it'll be better next year" thing or a chronic problem?

His Shoulders looked fine when he took Schilling deep yesterday.

That don't sound too good. But otherwise I'd be all over Gomes.

that isn't the problem -- I've been following him closely (he's on my fantasy team) He can't throw and hasn't played in the field at all for over a month now. He was on pinch hit duty in all the NL parks during interleague last week.

They're pretty sure he'll have to have off season surgery on that shoulder and apparently he's been taking grounders at first lately. I think he'd be a pretty big risk to an NL team and I don't think trading for him would smart for the cubs right now.

In other words, Hendry will be all over him.

Call me crazy, but now may be exactly the right time to trade for him. Maybe he'll come cheaper since he's injured. Get him to have the surgery now and start his rehab. By next spring he'll be ready to go. It's not like we're competing for anything for the rest of this year anyway.

Might be crazy enough to work. Hendry gambles on all types of pitchers injuries why not something like this. Besides if the Cubs have Johnny G(o)umms and Razor Shine on their team theys be soundin like ganstas.

How do you pronounce Gomes anyway? Long O?

Call me crazy, but I don't think the D-Rays are the "blue light special" they once were for shoppers. I think with the young crop of talent they have, new ownership, and management, they are really looking to build and win. Schilling himself said yesterday, "This ain't the expansion Rays anymore, this is a very strong (offensive) team."

That said, I'm sure anyone can be had for pitching...!

I didn't mean get him for nothing, just that this might be the time we can get him less expensively considering he can only DH and as someone already said they have a crowded OF/DH situation already.

Sounds like the perfect time to try to get him then. Rich Hill and another prospect as a starting offer? Hopefully the league is thinking "get Cubs prospects, they'll flourish elsewhere" after the Patterson debacle.

Who cares that he'd be useless this season. This season is already useless...
