I have always respected Hendry for keeping his word to players.

I think the guys with the most value that can be traded are the middle relief guys Howry and Eyre. IMO teams really overpay for those types of players.

Don't trade them unless we get a really, really, really good offer. These are 2 guys I want on my team in 2007. And to the White Sox and Cardinals, they should be 100% off-limits.

Please give us one good, legitimate reason that makes sense to anyone beyond puberty.

Cardinals - Division team. I don't want them mowing us down 20 times a year for the next 2 years

White Sox - You tell them they are in the Cubs plans for 2007 (which they should be) and the fact that they're the guys that can get the White Sox over the top is what makes it 100% off-limits

The Dodgers aren't going to be interested in Pierre. They already have Furcal and Lofton to lead off. And they have an OF of Drew, Lofton, Ethier, Cruz Jr. and Kemp.

Middle relief/closer will definitely interest them. Dempster, Eyre, Howry or maybe even Williamson should really intrigue the Dodgers.

And the Dodgers won't give up Ethier for Maddux.

Eithier was part of the trade. Lofton was injured yesterday and removed from the game. I'm not sure how bad it is though.

Plus, if they need a new centerfielder for next year this gives them a in with Pierre. Lofton was only signed for this year and I don't know if they want him again due to his age.

I think most teams would want Pierre over Cruz Jr.

Kemp is more of a corner outfielder?

So the outfield would be RF Drew, CF Pierre. and LF Kemp. And Cruz Jr. off the bench.

I was at yesterday's game, I'd be shocked if Lofton misses much time over that injury.

My main point is Ethier isn't going anywhere for Pierre/Maddux. Thus, the Dodgers will still have an overflow of OFs and won't need Pierre.

Kemp will be fine in CF for now, and the Dodgers will probably play him there as long as JD Drew is in RF (eventually, Kemp will have to move to RF - long-term he's a corner OF, for now he can handle CF).

What do you think it would take from the Cubs to get Ethier?

If there's no demand for Maddux, I'd just as soon he'd finish out the year rather than throw him away for mid-level prospects. I know it's sentimental, but in a lost season I can't help it.

My guess would be LA and SD are looking at Maddux - LA first with the Ned Colletti tie. Having said that, my feeling still is that Maddux wants to stay in Chicago, and I could see Hendry giving him a 1-year extension.

If you've read his gazillion posts saying the same thing, it seems like he is serious.

So you're telling me Lee and Zambrano can be traded?? The main reason for not trading Howry and Eyre are b/c they should be in our 2007 plans. The fact that it could put the White Sox over the top is a side thing.

In the right trade anybody is tradeable to any team. I think there's very little chance of a trade involving Z or Lee I'd be in favor of, but it isn't completely impossible. Same thing with Howry and Eyre. I wouldn't actively seek to trade them, but if any team (including the Cardinals or White Sox) offered a very good deal, the Cubs would be crazy not to consider it.

I'm not actually advocating trading those players; I'm simply saying that you can't say conclusively at this point that a good offer won't come.

Cards offer you Pujols for Lee, you turn it down?

The Cards gonna give us some dough to cover the difference in salaries??

I think we should trade Maddux to the White Sox.

Lance Broadway and Brandon McCarthy and I'd gladly do it.

OML...

I'd trade Maddux to the Sox for either of the above. Actually, I'd give them Maddux, Pierre and Williamson for McCarthy.

We're not going anywhere and McCarthy slides nicely into the rotation for the next few years.

I would Trade Maddux to the Brewers for Carlos Lee but i would also give the Brewers Jaun Pierre thats only if the cubs get Ryan Freel

I wonder what Sully would think if the Cubs aquired McCarthy? We'd relive the 50's if that happened.

How about Mad Dog Pierre and Willamson for both of them, and then send McCarthy to AAA. I don't want the Cubs staff messing with him.

Kenny Williams is not a complete idiot. I doubt he sends both Broadway and McCarthy for Maddux, Pierre, and Williamson. The White Sox really don't need Maddux. I'd do Howry for McCarthy and throw in Pierre if necessary and ask for Anderson added to the package.
