Technically, it was. Pierre looked back which means it was suppose to be a hit and run. Ronny also shook his head because he knew he missed it...

 

Isn't it possible that Pierre got the wrong sign though (not saying that is true, but's possible)

 

I think it's more likely to be the opposite, especially when you consider Ronny's reaction after the play.
