Getting Dusty out of here can't come soon enough. Some people say he'll be here the rest of the year, others that if this keeps up, by the trading deadline (me!!). The most important thing is that he is NOT HERE next year. But the sooner he is gone the more comfortable I'll feel. Even though the Cubs have no chance, it will mean he is finally gone. And no more worrying about whether he will be extended or not. It will also help to start knock some common sense into our players that will be here next year. Get them used to playing under someone with some common sense, and without the defeatist, credit giving to other teams, excuse making attitude. It will also mean having someone smart enough to know the RIGHT thing to do is to give Marmol, Marshall, and possibly Guzman or Hill all the starts they can get for the rest of the year. It means so many things, that's why I created this topic. What does it mean to you?

Derreck Lee was right when he said they don't show up to play. That is because Dusty has rubbed off on them. Here's hoping he takes his inept coaching buddies with him.

Every morning I turn my computer on and go to this site hoping it'll be the time I look at the Transactions and it says those beautiful words Baker has been fired. I don't like to see people lose their jobs normally but this isn't a normal situation.

I want him to be 27 games under 500 before he gets fired... then he leaves the cubs with a losing record... which is what he deserves...

they're at 19 now...

I seriously think he has until the ASB to make drastic improvement. He has most of his horses back now and probably will be given the next 15 games to show improvement. I hope he is fired soon also. I also hope we really clean house at the deadline. Hopefully add a player or 2 that will help us compete in the future. Personnally I would like to see Theriot, Fontenot and Restovich called up and see what they can do with serious MLB playing time, which wont happen if Dusty is manager. I am not saying these are corner stone players but they have performed well in AAA and it would be nice to see if they can add value as role players for the Cubs in the future.

My only hope as a Cub fan is the end of the current regime and the Cubs taking a different course than what they have done since the end of 2003

Unfortunately with Lee back, Prior coming around, and Barrett coming back from suspension I think if they play .500 ball between now and the all star break Hendry will feel justified in giving him his two year extension. Playing .500 ball might be a monumental task for this team though.

Hendry can't extend baker when they're 20 games under .500. He'll get destroyed in the media and by the fans. The Fans will stop coming...

Well, then they can blame the fans not supporting them for the losses I gues...

You go to Transactions? I come straight to the main page hoping to see 50 celebratory redundant fire Dusty Threads. It's the one time Mods should allow it.

Does this take into account games played that he did not manage? i.e. suspended

Hmm... no, but I've figured it twice, once when an article mentioned his Win/Loss as the manager, and once just now based on their record the last three seasons and this one...

So either, they figured it the same way I did, or the Cubs are .500 in games he hasn't managed...

I'll look into it...

ETA: If the only suspension of Baker was the one game vs Arizona in 2004, after he swore... the Cubs won that one, so Baker has one less win as the manager than the total would suggest. If you want to get technical then, they only need to be 26 games under .500 this year, and Baker will have one fewer win than losses.

However, most seem to ignore that suspension when listing his record as the Cubs Manager, so I'll just figure on wanting 27 under :)
