The Cubs drafted him in like the 10th round anyone have any info on him. I know he is playing in the Northwoods League this summer and was supposed to start for the Madison Mallards last night, but they pulled him from the start leading me to believe he will sign with the Cubs and report right away.

“I’m usually around 92 to 94 (mph) and top out at 95,” Kopach said. “Getting in the top 12 (rounds) was something I was working for. I’ve been busting my butt the last three years getting the pitching thing going. My mechanics have to come a ways. I was excited that with the mechanical issues I had that I could still go in the 12th round.”

Kopach will meet with Cubs’ officials later this week to discuss financial terms. He said he will decide then whether or not to sign or return to ISU for his senior season.

If his family has any input, look for him to sign.

“Both of my grandpas were huge Cub fans and my grandmas are as well,” he said. “My family is kind of split between the White Sox and Cubs, but I think I cleared that up (by being drafted by the Cubs).”

I played with him for 5 years all through High School. He played on the Lombard Lightning with me, and came on the team and showed me up. I was always one of the guys with the best arm, and I was the catcher. He came and played with us and was throwing around 90 from short stop. He is a great kid with a great aditude. The only problem is that he has only started pitching in college, and he is very wild still. I currently play on the Oswego Cats and played him last year when he was on the Lombard Orioles (independent teams) and we are good friends which made him nervous I hope because he hit my 2 out of the 4 times I faced him with a 93 mph fast ball near my head both times. If you can guess I didnt' come close to hitting the ball the rest of the time.
