so, today i'm watchin the Cards/Astro game and while discussing the upcoming Cards/Cubs series the announcer says "apparently there is already a deal in place to extend Bakers contract, Cubs management is just waiting for the right time to announce it"

has anyone heard anything like this anywhere else?

I've heard rumors to that effect for a while. And the general consensus among the beat writers is that the signing is inevitable. By the way, isn't Stone doing the Cards/Astros game? Did he say it?

I heard them say the same thing.

Disgusting.

I'm seriously on the verge of finding another team to root for.

I've always been a Cubs fan, but, as a baseball fan, it's becoming tough to root for them.

You know, there is a whole community of Cubans in Miami who would kill and die for Cuba, but feel the current management has to go. That's sort of how I describe my Cub fandom.

And whenever I see the word Cuba somewhere I initially thinks it says Cubs.

So who would win if the Cobs played Cuba?

I am also done investing my day to day energies in the Cubs. I don't read the papers everyday and I don't spend near as much time. The ownership, management and coaching staff are all so terrible that it makes supporting this team very difficult.

I am now following the Rangers day to day in order to still enjoy baseball.

Stone, Phillips and Thorne had a great bit about whether to walk Pujols late in the game.

Something to the effect:

Stone: Off the air, Thorny, you had an interesting approach to Pujols here.

Thorne: I'd put him on. No way I'd let him hit with the score tied in the 7th.

Stone: You wouldn't even give him anything close?

Thorne: No. Just put him on.

Phillips: Whats your take, Stoney?

Stone: I think Thorne would put him on.

You probably had to be there, but it was great.

Then, during the AB, Russ Springer was throwing pitches WAY outside. The guys were kind of laughing about how absurd it was. Then, out of nowhere, Springer let a cutter get over the outside corner for a strike. The guys in the booth were obviously stunned, commenting that the only person more shocked in the park than Pujols was probably Garner. Stone, acting like Springer, said, "Hey Ump! What Kind of call was that? Are you even watching the game?"

I can stand to watch Cardinal games if Stone is in the booth. But, he's no Brenly....

And would Mark Cuban be involved?

Yes indeed we'd have a mess on our hands. Alliteration galore.

Cuban's Cubs Club Cuba or Cuba Clubs Cuban's Cubs. Take your pick.

I'm not investing any emotional energy in this team anymore until major changes are made.

I caught the bottom of the 9th today. Didn't care. Flipped over to a "Fraiser" rerun right after the game.

At least I have my summer free now.
