probably on their way to last after today's disaster. The starters have to have the worse ERA in the NL considering Rusch, Williams, Hill, Guzman and Ryu have 16 or so starts. I can't find the stat for starters tho. Fred?

What a disgrace, and just think how bad it would be if Marshall didn't come out of nowhere.

Jmo, but the starting pitching is a bigger disappoint than the hitting. At least Lee can give the offence a big boost when he returns. Expecting anything from Prior/Wood is laughable.

I've got the starters at 5.54, bullpen at 4.05, and 4.96 overall. I only have that split for the CUBS. No way to compare it to the rest of the league.

If you measure it from 26 April forward..... you get starters at 6.51, bullpen at 4.44 and overall 5.68. No wonder we're 6-24 over that span.

I found the info on ESPN. They have drop down window that you can sort by starters and relievers. The Cubs are indeed last in SP with an ERA of 5.54. Florida is 2nd worst with 5.14. The Cubs are 7th in bullpen ERA in the NL. Its pathetic.

Here is a breakdown of runs scored by the Cubs this season:

Innings 1-6: 127

Innings 7-9: 63

The Cubs have scored about evenly in the last three innings of games this season compared with early in games. In fact, the Cubs have scored 7 runs this season in the third inning of games. When the Cubs were successful, they got 4 or 5 runs quickly and held the lead. This season, the offense doesn't seem to get going until the team is behind. The starting staff ERA has been a huge embarrassment, but the offense has basically never picked them up this season.

it's not "laughable" to expect Prior and Wood to perform better than Hill, Guzman, and Ryu.

This could help explain some of the bullpen's struggles, since the better pitchers will generally only be in if the Cubs aren't losing late. With bad offense and bad starting pitching, there's not much the bullpen can do. Hendry would save money by selecting a lucky fan to pitch middle relief during home games.
