that we don't play the Royals in interleague play, and I'm not talking about how it could help us get another win or two this year. If we played the Royals then we would be able to find out once and for all who the worst team in the league is this year. We've assured ourselves of, at best, a .500 finish against the Marlins this year and will have plenty of chances to lose to the Pirates, but we don't play the Royals this year.

Seriously, this year I would not want to play the Royals and find out that answer. That would be the final nail in my coffin, I'm afraid. I'm better off imagining a Cubs-Royals series!

Back in the old days when we used to have a chance at contending, I used to wonder about the interleague schedule. Why is it that the Cubs had to play the Sox while the Cards gotto play the Royals. If those days of contention ever return, I think the schedule makers ought to even things out a little bit.
