More than that, he's one of the few players on the Cubs that may be worth something right now.

He likes being a Cub, heavens knows why. I like having him around for the younger guys, especiallly someone like Marshall who has a bright future. For that reason alone we need to keep him.

Actually, to be kind, we should probably trade Marshall also. He seems like a nice kid. Keeping him around would constitute cruel and unusual punishment.

My son was often the best kid on a terrible team when he was playing, and he never seemed to mind it. Can kind of be a sick, twisted ego boost in a way!

I'd love to see Maddog finish out the career here, but he's one of the few guys that could net the team some players to take steps to rebuilding. I've said it before, but I wouldn't be opposed to packaging Marshall with Maddux (highlight their teacher/student relationship) if Wood and Prior manage to come back and pitch even close to their former selves.
