Regression towards the mean and all that stuff.

Cedeno and Murton are doing well. When Pierre and Ramirez (and to a lesser extent, Jones) return to something more closely resembling their career norms, this offense will not be nearly as pathetic as the stats show it has been recently.

Add to that the potential addition of three great starters in the next few weeks, and this goose is far from cooked.

Believe!

The reason you can say the above is because you HAVEN'T been watching games. Aram will be fine. Pierre blows and Jones blows. Their numbers aren't moving anywhere in a majorly positive manner.

Not watching the games doesn't give you any unusual perspective - I don't see much of the games either because I'm usually looking away and wincing.

To believe, there must be something to believe IN----otherwise we're just gullible.

Wood and Prior are just as likely to revisit the DL later in the season as they are to pitch solidly to the end. I'm sorry but until they prove something, that doesn't qualify as "hope."

Wade Miller is a big, smiling question mark.

Derek Lee will be nice to have back, but it may be too late by then and honestly our offensive woes go much deeper than Lee's absence.

There's a reason the Marlins got rid of Pierre, and a reason the Twins got rid of Jones. My God, Hendry got rooked to high heaven on these guys. He's a lightweight by any measure.

This is quickly becoming a disaster. Good teams don't go on 7-10 game benders where the entire team is just junk. You may lose a few in a row, but not like this. Not like this.

I all fairness, minus the 0-5 with 4 k game, Jones has been one of our more consistent and better hitters during this slump. And I know, we have been facing righties, and yes, I am in favor of a strict platoon also; but seeing as how that is not happening, I pat him on the back for starting to step it up.

Jones has a 780 OPS during the past 7 days, while Ramirez has a 907. Jacque does have the higher OBP though. Murton and Barrett have good OBPs during that stretch, but no power. Cedeno's been decent. Everybody else has sucked.

I haven't been watching or even listening to the games on this west coast trip because I am usually asleep by 10:00 E.S.T., but reading the next day about missed cutoff men, getting picked off, getting doubled off, stealing a base when down 6, and failing to execute any sacrifice bunts except the time the three hitter was asked to do it is making me think something big has to happen or we will continue to watch a team much like the last couple of years.

I think Dusty either has to go or has to get the team to play smart. He cannot continue to justify a lack of fundamentals by citing his former teams. The teams he has coached the last three years have displayed miserable baserunning, a failure to hit a cutoff man, and a failure to execute a sacrifice bunt.

Now, we can argue the merits of bunting, but if you are a coach and you are going to call on people to bunt, they need to know how. I think if they don't know how, it's the coaches fault for either not teaching them or continuing to call on them to do something they can't do well.
