I'm just curious, who are the numerous "critics" that think Prior needs a change of scenery? This is the first I have heard of it.

Maybe by "change of scenery" they meant somewhere other rehabbing in Arizona every season.

I would love Prior to have a change of scenery to Wrigley myself.

After watching Rusch and Sean Marshall pitch the last 2 games, without Prior and Wood we aren't going anywhere.

I think you need to give Marshall more than ONE start before assuming we aren't going anywhere with him.

Rusch, I agree with you on and have since the end of 2004 when I knew he had caught lightning in a bottle. Anyone knew he didn't suddenly become a dominating pitcher after sucking for so many years. ANyone but Hendry of course.

If I were Prior, I might have also stumbled on the change of scenery question because it was probably unexpected and perplexing. He may have been wondering who are these critics he's refering to....

In any event, Prior is probably not a good interview at a time like this... He's a real competitor and you can tell he is really ticked off about not being able to contribute and is uncomfortable answering questions about it.

Listen, I'm high on Marshall and I'm glad he made the team believe me, but When your 1 and 2 is Z and Maddux and your 3 4 5 is Rusch, Williams and Marshall there is reason to be worried.

I think ESPN is just importing a lesson from Fox.

the interviewer wants to pose a question, or more accurately create a story where there is none, but will look like a scumbag if he does, so instead of posing the question himself, he attributes it to

unnamed sources

experts

official sources

pundits

critics

etc etc etc

in other words, no real people to which the question can actually be attributed to.

I think Zambrano, Prior, Maddux, Miller Marshall doesnt look to shabby. Plus we need at least one lefty in there. Mike North compared him to a young Mark Beurlhe today so there are others out there who think hes pretty damn good.

By no means do we need at least one lefty if that lefty is not a good pitcher. I like Sean Marshall because I think he can be a good pitcher, not because he is a token lefty. It's statements like "we need a lefty" that keep guys like Glendon Rusch employed.

Are you assuming Wood isn't healthy?

While your rotation isn't bad, I'd prefer Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Maddux, Miller...especially if each is pitching near his 3-year average.

In fact, if Wood, Prior and Miller return to pitch somewhere in that range, we will have one of if not the best rotation in the league.

I have a really strong gut feeling that Wood is gonna come back and pitch like Kerry Wood for the rest of his season. I don't know what it is, but I just feel like he will.

I agree and feel the same about Prior. I have no idea why because no rational human being should feel like that right now, but I do.

Same for me on both of them. And third that for Miller.

See but the thing is I didn't have that feeling about Wood last year. I never thought he'd get healthy and stay healthy - even after that 7 inning 1 ER game against the Fish.

But this year it's almost like the stars are alligned or something.

I don't think it's just false optimism right now, but maybe it is.

There's nothing funnier that scrolling through a Cubs message board and seeing everyone say "I don't know why, I just have a gut feeling like Wood and Prior are both gonna get healthy and pitch like 2003." What a funny group of people.

Not that I don't have the exact same feeling....
