From Carol Slezak's article in today's Suntimes

And if the bleachers now include 253 "bleacher box seats'' in right field, many of them with obstructed views, that cost $43 each ($54 for prime dates)?

Is she saying that the new Bleacher Box seats in right include obstructed views?? If so, this is insane!

I'm sitting there on 4/13 against the Reds - if there is a pole in my way I'll tear it down!!

Yes, the author did a terrible job of explaining that very-important fact.

Those of you sitting in the new bleacher boxes in the next few weeks: enlighten us with your experience and the alleged obstructed views.

I cant imagine them being obstructed in the true sense of the word. The old family and group sections werent obstructed. They may just have to say obstructed because you cant see the warning track in whatever side you are sitting in or somethig. Im going to the bud light bleachers today and will come back and report.

Looking at the photos up on the website, it looks like the seats on the right hand side of the bleacher boxes will not be able to see the extreme right center field corner, up against the wall. I think most bleacher seats have a blind spot somewhere along the fence. You might miss a catch on the warning track, but you can miss those from a lot of spaces.

I've been in that section in years past and Gooney is right. It's in the RF section that's slightly cut back from the rest of the outfield. In the first several bleacher box rows, you should be able to see that cut-back section of RF better than most of the rest of the park can ... but you may miss balls/catches on the warning track in the non-cutback section of RF.

Slezak has written columns in the past about how she hasn't enjoyed going to games at Wrigley and prefers the modern conviences at U.S. Cellular.

She's written about living on the northside and hating having Wrigley in the neighborhood as well. Which explains her ridiculous opening to the article.

Yeah, that's certainly nothing new. And a lot of outfield seats across the league have blind spots.

The family section was always a great place to watch the game despite the blind spot. I'm not sure what the odds are of missing a great catch at the wall, but I'd imagine they're pretty darn small.

I had great seats (free) to last night's Mets game, and there's still a significant blind spot all the way down the LF line.

Wait, so we're now referring to it as a "blind spot" or "obstructed view" if outfield seats can't see the warning track?

Incredibly lame and silly. She's an idiot.

I emailed Slezak and asked her to clarify her staement. This was her reply:

from what I saw, depending where your seat is, you might not be able to see much of center/left field. You can always see home plate and the infield and right field (although don't know about the right field corner/wall; you might have to stand up and look over rail, down at field, for plays like that.... I think the new construction in center field is the cause of the vision blockage...the cf bleachers are higher, so there is a big wall ....

hopefully they'll have the tv installed by next week! have fun.

So I guess this is just a line-of-sight issue after all. Mad Props to Carol for her quick reply!

I'm trying to figure out how you wouldn't be able to see most of center & left field from the RF bleacher boxes. Maybe if you were lying facedown in an aisle?

I guess she was talking mainly about the upper CF bleachers in her response vs the "obstructed views" of the RF bleacher boxes that she mentioned in her column.

I sat there today. The seats are a little recessed, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that they are "obstructed". I actually liked the seats a lot. I'm pretty sure we made Encarnacion play like crap today with our constant heckling.

Thanks for the report CR! I'm taking my boys next week and we have 1st row Bleacher Box. It'll be Sam's first trip to Wrigley and I would have been really bummed if we were "obstructed!"

I sat in the front row in RF, right behind the green door.

There are places on the field you can't see. It's just one of those things. No big deal, really.
