From the AP on the trib website.

I'm sorry, but as a Cub fan, I find it unacceptable. I hope the Trib sells the team. The White Sox have a higher payroll than the Cubs? Maybe I've been out of it, but I had no idea.

Team—Payroll—Average Salary

N.Y. Yankees—$198,662,180—$7,095,078

Boston—120,100,524—4,448,168

Los Angeles Angels—103,625,333—4,145,013

White Sox—102,875,667—3,956,756

New York Mets—100,901,085—3,880,811

Los Angeles Dodgers—99,176,950—3,673,220

Cubs—94,841,167—3,387,185

Houston—92,551,503—3,559,673

Atlanta—92,461,852—3,188,340

San Francisco—90,862,063—3,634,483

St. Louis—88,441,218—3,401,585

This was posted a coupel days ago somewhere on here. As I said, parts of contracts being picked up by other teams (i.e. 7M of Thome's contract being paid by the Phillies) isn't accuonted for in those #s. It's annoying, and not that difficult to get correct. And it leads to people freaking out about payroll numbers like last year when everyone said the Cubs had an 87M payroll when they were paying 13.5M to Sosa.
