This move is all part of standard baseball paranoia. Oh my God what if one of our 2 lefties in the pen go down??? We'd only have one guy to waste out of the pen by pitching to only one batter!!

Rusch should be throwing out of the pen once those 3(Only 1 in my opinion, but I'm sure Dusty will stick with him till all 3 are back) are back. Being pessimistic and saying they won't be back til Mid-June, you're rostering a guy based on Class A stats in relief and a very small sample size in ST. All for 2 months of paranoia because you can't survive with only 1 lefty in the pen. It's absurd.

So Hendry didn't have enough of a back-up plan last season when unforeseen injuries/failures happened to his bullpen and he got criticized for it. Now he goes out of his way to have what looks like a guy who can be effective against lefties at the major league level placed on the 40-man roster just in case one of the lefties in the pen goes down or fails to perform well and he is paranoid.

Interesting...

But it's all probably an internet mistake anyway.

If this were true, the point was there was no need to place him on the 40 man roster. If a need arose down the line, they could put him on then.

Which might be exactly what they'll do since this appears to be mistake.

My point was that there are only two lefties in the bullpen and so long as Rusch is in the rotation, it will stay that way unless the Cubs want to disrupt the development of Hill or Marshall to provide left-handed depth to the pen. Also, Rapada appears close to major league ready if used only as a loogy. I agree that without there being a reason to roster him now, it would be a move that could be done at a later time. But if it had actually happened and not been an internet goof, there are enough reasons to justify it without having to call the move "absurd" or "mind-numbing".

I'm not certain it would be a bad thing for Hill's development at this point to go to the pen for a year and learn to attack major league hitters with his stuff iinstead of nibbling.

But because they didn't have to add him, this is exactly why you wouldn't add him, and why adding him would be stupid. You don't make a move before you have to, unless you're getting some kind of discount for making the move early (like signing a pre arby player to a deal, etc). You don't set your 25 man roster on March 1st, and you don't add a guy to the 40 man until there is a drawback to waiting.

Has anyone else pointed out that he was NOT added?

Yes, it's been pointed out a couple times. But CubsWin is trying to say it wouldn't have been a bad move had it not been an error.

Sorry, didn't see that one. Anywho, it would have been a crap move.

A couple of months ago someone mistakenly had Thome being acquired by the Cubs...
Who did we mistakenly trade for him?

Rowand... yes, we traded another teams' player for a guy... I think thats awesome.

Right, exactly and I agree, but, at the time of SSR's post that I was responding to (very late at night) there was no way to tell if Eyre or Ohman had gotten injured. Such an injury which would explain moving Rapada onto the 40-man. So at the time of his post and my response to it, it was legit to ask for a bit of restraint in criticizing the move. I just felt SSR jumped the gun a bit, that's all.
