I really think it's going to be weird to have Neifi, Walker and Theriot all on the bench. Dusty says this:

“We’re looking for the best 25 that we can break with, the most options, the most variables, the most interchangeable parts and the best ability to not have any holes, to try to cover as many departments as you can with the personnel you have,”

But then they are apparantly willing to leave open an enormous hole, that of a right handed bat with any sort of ability to produce, while overlapping roles with other guys.

I would have liked to have seen Sing make the roster. His spring was at least as good as Theriots.

Does this mean Jacque Jones will play nearly everyday? I know Dusty loves to look at individual matchups but he has to be aware of how terrible Jones is against LH pitchers.

Well, at least Pagan can play all 3 outfield positions.

Restovich k's WAY too much for my taste. His value as a late inning pinch hitter suffers from how often he doesn't make contact. Normally k's don't bother me, but pinch hitters need to be able to hit the ball. Sac flies, etc are impt late in the game.

I wouldn't assume that. Dusty wasn't aware that Remlinger couldn't get LH hitters out, even though there was plenty of evidence. Jones is an everyday player in the Cubs mind, so no matter who is pitching, he's going to start the vast majority of games.

with today's Sun-Times report that Hairston will be the starter at second, I wouldn't assume for a second that Walker won't be dealt for a right handed bat.

If Walker isn't dealt by Saturday, there will be ten fewer teams to which he can be dealt.

Isn't Pagan also a switch-hitter as well?

Why is that?

Walker has a ten-team no trade list that goes into effect on April 1.

I was thinking for along the lines of the offense, but you are definitely correct with his handling of the bullpen. Baker was constantly sitting Walker vs. LH's last year and would love to stack righties against LH's and vice versa.

That is certainly true. He would never try to max out the LH bats against a righty, but he would sometimes go with all RH bats against a lefty. A lot of times this meant playing guys who didn't belong in starting lineups, ever. But he used Burnitz as an everyday guy, I think he'll do the same with Jones. He will probably try and line up his rest days with games against LHP from time to time, but Jacque will be in there flailing away when most LHP are out there.
