212 pinch hits, and it only took 18 years. That's a whopping 11.77 pinch hits per season for a light-hitting defensive hack who was never good enough to start. I can really see why MLB always had a roster spot for this guy for the last 18 years.

I am just curious - why do you think that is? I mean, he has been with several teams (http://www.baseballreference.com/h/harrile01.shtml) so does that mean every GM that signed him is incompetent?

Amazing he turned sucking into 11 million dollars.

Going to guess he just lucked out that he always found a team that needed a utility guy. How much of that was luck and how much was just astutely picking the right teams to sign with...hard to say.

At once game in 2003, during batting practice Lenny had fielded (it probably just hit him in the leg or he slipped on it), a ball that had come into the outfield. He pointed at me in the bleachers, and tossed it up to me. Lenny Harris forever has a place in my heart because of that. They can sign him all they want, :-D

Jim Bowden was GM of the Reds from '92 to 2003. So that covers from Lenny's career from '94 through '98...

An MLB GM can subscribe to a few lame outdated old school ideas and still not be completely incompetent. The Chicago Cubs have a GM like that. It only takes one to ensure that a Lenny Harris always has a job.
