there is some very positive ink on Murton at the above site.

I'm not a baseball stats geek (funny, 'cause stats/data is my job!) - but I was really impressed with this article. It laid out in pretty simple terms how "two batters with such similar seasons can have such different outlooks." Very Interesting! Great stuff . . .

I agree that Murton has what it takes to be a very good OF for a long time. Now let's hope everyone quits talking about platooning him or packaging him in some trade.

The best thing about those graphs was showing how Murton was making better contact against RHP as he got more time. However, that still doesn't change the fact that the sample for those numbers isn't very large, and he still has BABIP and slugging history working against him repeating last year's success.

good find! for both you and hendry. maybe this will work out kind of like sandberg the larry bowa trade. one can hope... :P

You know, I am old enough to remember "the Bowa trade." And while it is a great story that a HOFer was a throw-in, it is simply not true. DeJesus was the prize the Phillies wanted. We took their old SS to fill the position, but the prospect was the key to the trade. I believe we asked for Julio Franco and settled for Sandberg.

i thought i heard at the time of the deal somewhere that hendry wouldn't have pulled the trigger without murton being involved, and that he was the only reason boston fans didn't like the deal initially.

funny how we have to take from others' farm systems to produce a good, patient at the plate position player. i guess no so much funny as sad :(

is it enough to at least be somewhat excited about?

Sure, I'm excited that Murton's going to get an opportunity to be our LF, and hope that he continues his success. My point was the article didn't really bring any new analysis(at least to us Cub fans), aside from the declining K's. Any worries we have about Murton aren't assuaged by that article.

I was not speaking to the equivalence of the Sandberg and Murton trades. I am saying that Sandberg was not a throw in. Kudos to Hendry for getting somebody who might be good. If he isn't, what's new?
