There will be baseball in Jackson, TN this year

I just got back from the Jackson city council meeting and they voted to approve and three year lease agreement with the DJaxx. If the jaxx decide to leave after one year, the Jaxx will have to pay the city of Jackson $500,000. After two years, $250,000 and after three years, $0.

 

At the start of the meeting, we were informed that the Djaxx did turn down the latest city proposal. Then the city decided that if they did not want to lose AA baseball, they they had no choice but to accept the Djaxx proposal dating back to Dec. There are no attendance requirements.

 

Tim Bennett is still in the picture to buy the DJaxx but he would be under this contract also.

 

So we will have baseball. Now off to the golf course to celebrate!

One word: Relieved. I can't imagine how difficult this whole ordeal has been for the for organization. I've already sent Jeff a note of congratulations and an offer to help in any way I can in 2006. Hopefully the people will realize what they have and start showing up!

With this close call, hopefully the fans will realize what they nearly lost and start showing as much interest in the team as people on this board do. Having a minor league team that's in contention most years is something people in many towns would die for.

It is a crying shame when the AA teams in the state have better parks than one of the AAA teams do. Count me in for a road trip for at least one game this year.
