The Cubs don't need Ibanez or Graffanino.

Ibanez>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jones

Agreed, but I'm resigned to the fact that Jones is playing 162 games next year.

What are we going to have OF by committee next Spring?

Murton, Pie, Jones, Grissom, Ibanez, Hairston

And I can't see the Cubs aquiring a 2B without getting rid of Walker in the same deal. I don't see how else the Cubs would be able to unload Walker unless its for a PTBNL (most likely)

I think we should try and trump the record the Nationals currently hold of most players capable of playing second base on a roster at the same time! A few weeks ago, all of the following were on the Nats 40-man roster...

Alfonso Soriano, Jose Vidro, Junior Spivey, Brendan Harris, Damian Jackson, Marlon Anderson, Jamey Carroll, Rick Short, Bernie Castro.

That's nine! Out of a roster of forty! Impressive, no?

Graffanino is a free agent.

Rumor=dead.

Nope.

Nope.

BOSTON -- Tony Graffanino accepted salary arbitration from the Red Sox before Monday night's deadline, meaning the infielder will return to Boston next season.

Tampa Bay first baseman Travis Lee was the only other free agent to accept arbitration from his former club. He and Graffanino are considered signed players, with only their salaries to be determined.

He was eligible for free agency, but chose to accept arbitration instead. He made $1.1m last year, and probably stands to make as much as $2.5-3m in arbitration.

Sometimes teams hate when free agent accept arbitration. They'd rather the player go and the team get picks instead.

We've got Boston Dirt Dogs.com shooting this down:

The hot stove rumors are out there. There's a 3-way trade outlined today on the mlbtraderumors.com blog:

"Cubs/Red Sox/Mariners Trade Possible

A reliable source told me today about a three-way deal that is "imminent." It's always risky to throw around "imminent," but I'm just quoting him here.

Here's the scenario:

BOS gives: Bronson Arroyo, Tony Graffanino, PTBNL

BOS gets: Jeremy Reed, Will Ohman

CHC gives: Corey Patterson, Ohman

CHC gets: Raul Ibanez, Graffanino, cash

SEA gives: Reed, Ibanez, cash

SEA gets: Arroyo, Patterson, PTBNL"

My understanding is that this trade is a nonstarter. Ain't happening.
