cardfan - what makes you think he will understand the strike zone on another team? At best I see him returning to .305 .450 type numbers - not horrible for a cf but not really a star either. his defense is quite overrated in my opinion as he gets bad jumps and takes bad routes.

You could be right of course, but with his upside potential and again being as good as we can probably come up with before opening day I think he's still our best option. And for the additional reason that we should have better luck keeping our Staff healthy which ought to translate into winning all by itself which may well translate into a better crowd reaction and hopefully more relaxation and production from him (Patterson). All this is hypothetical, but its not impossible to be sure either.

In my post I called him an "OK ball player" (he was before last season). Not to mention he is still fairly young. He's still under 27 right?

I just think he could be useful on a team like Pittsburgh or Colorado.

Yeah, I know that is the consensus view, but if you stick him in the 7 or 8 hole and just let him play I still think he's as good as any RF candidate realistically available to us (except perhaps Floyd...if he's actually available). Plus he's young, fast, got good D and relatively cheap.

The reason I have grave doubts about that is the same reason keeping Neifi! around disturbs me: Dusty. Dusty and Corey may not see eye-to-eye, but Dusty has convinced himself that Corey should be able to hit at the top of the order (because he's fast. or whatever). And once Dusty has convinced himself of something, he sticks with it, consequences and results be damned.

If by chance Cedeno and Corey are both still on the team in '06, I'd hope that Cedeno would get the free pass to be hidden someplace in the lineup if he struggles. Murton might actually go through a cold spell himself -- I hope not, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

Additionally ... Corey's defense post-amazing-catch-in-Cincy suffered somewhat last year, and I don't recall him being very successful on the basepaths despite his speed. If the Cubs trade away Cedeno, I'd be more comfortable with Corey sticking around. I can't see having Cedeno / Murton / Corey in the same lineup, and if I have to choose two out of the three, Corey doesn't make the cut.

Yeah, all of that makes sense, but I still think CPAT has a lot of upside and I haven't COMPLETELY lost faith in him. If he does come around he'd be a real asset.

Had Hendry focused on Bradley instead of Pierre, he could have obtained him in all likelihood. As a RF option, Bradley was not nearly as interesting anyway.

If the Cubs didn't plan to contend, they could afford to give him a shot. Getting Pierre ended Corey's Cubs career in my opinion. He wouldn't produce enough to play RF even if he reaches his peak.

Well play him in short right then. :D

.290 .350 .484 - Bradley

.258 .322 .435 - Burnitz

.249 .319 .438 - Jones

And the other two were in pretty decent (Burnitz in a very good) hitters park.

Bradley is the youngest, the most talented, and has the best skill set. And he got had for a mid-tier prospect.

He also put up this line: .309 .367 .494 away from Chavez Ravine.

He's a very, very, very good player when healthy. And his attitude IMO is way overblown.

I'm an angry elf right now. I'd MUCH rather have Bradley/Wilkerson (or both) than Pierre + Sanders/Burnitz/Jones. But thats just me...

How did you expect Hendry to get Bradley? Arm wrestle with the Dodger's GM? The Dodgers got a better return than anything the Cubs had to offer.

If we didn't overpay for Pierre we could have used either Pinto or Nolasco in a deal for Bradley - If they wouldn't do it then, then it's just Coletti not liking to help Baker in any way.

I said before, and I will say it again...Patterson's "talents" is not on question, it is his "baseball instints" (which he has none) that is questioned. This kid is "too laid back" to ever succeed, until it is late in his career. Patterson is content at the player he is (I hope that is not a trait shared by Eric, or if it is...move Eric now before he becomes a hassel) instead of being driving to become the player he should be. At this point of his career, CPatt is a fourth OF on a decent team.

What I took away from the discussion of Bradley's lack of consistent playing time over the last 6 seasons is that if is his so good and we should be disappointed that he isn't a Cub then why was he platooning? Shouldn't someone of his caliber be an everday player?
