DFAing Cairo in 2001 directly lead to the Cubs losing their playoff swagger, the firing of Don Baylor, and the ushering in of the esteemed regimes of Bruce Kimm and Dusty Baker.

Bring back Cairo, and end the true curse that hangs over Wrigley!

How exactly is Cairo different than Jose Macias?

Cairo: .251/.296/.324 in 327 at bats

Macias: .254/.274/.316 in 177 at bats

He's about the become the Yankees problem, anyway.

Well, aside from the fact that these are simple one year splits which are less reliable, Cairo managed to have better numbers in OBP, SLG and OPS through nearly twice as many ABs. I like the chance of Macias' number declining over the same amount of ABs such that the difference would be startling.

I talked to Miguel at a friend's wedding when he was with the Yankees. He loved his stints with the Cubs. He thought Wrigley was the best ballpark in baseball and the fans were the best in baseball...just ahead of St. Louis fans :D

He would be an excellent addition since he is a fundamentally sound baseball player and is one of those guys who is absolutely thrilled just to be playing major league baseball. He's willing to do whatever is asked of him and is truly one of the good guys in baseball.

What is it exactly that Miguel Cairo brings that Jerry Hairston doesn't?

Better bat, attitude, and no injuries!

what exactly do you mean, attitude?

Hairston mopes about playing time. Cairo is always smiling.

so was bobby bonilla, i don't know how cairo's attitude imroves the team.

can we stop beating the chemistry horse now? i'm just wondering because it seems like we had a bunch of happy losers on this team last year, and they weren't likeable anyway.

why do you care if players are smiling?

I won't speak for StMarks, but I like a happy team whenever possible. When I am happy, I am more productive; it makes sense that this would be the case for ball players as well.

But being a Marxist, I guess happiness isn't one of your priorities...

being productive in the working world and being productive in the world of baseball are two different things. i think it's a mistake to even try to compare your job with a baseball players'.

i can't stress enough how wrong it is to assume that baseball is like any other sport when it comes to chemistry. baseball is closer to an individual sport than any other major team sport in the world. i don't want a bunch of smiling losers, i want winners, no matter what, and smiling is a product of winning, not the other way around.

and as a marxist, i take issue with your last sentence. socialists want everyone to be happy, not just rich people. if you haven't noticed, most of the country works for a living.

We lost him the first time because Wood refused to go on the DL and we had to try and outright him to the minors for a roster spot...and at the same time, lost him and Gary Matthews, Jr.
That's when Zambrano made his Cubs' debut. He and Borowski were the players called up for spot starts. They each had one start and stunk before going back down. Fortunately he's done a little better since then. :D
