I have heard that the Padres might trade Mark Loretta to the Red Sox. What if?

Cubs get Renteria

Red Sox get Loretta

Padres get Walker

I would like to have Renteria bat 2nd and have Cedeno play second base

The last thing CHC needs is another middle-infielder. Even if we make this deal, Cedeno is still on the bench and unless Dusty decides he REALLY likes Hairston we still have Neifi at 2B.

In short, all we add is some upside on D (maybe), and a huge contract that doesn't expire for 3 more years. I'll take a flyer to be polite.

I heard a rumor (I believe ESPN)

Boston gets Lugo

Braves get Renteria

TB gets Marte (3rd base prospect from Braves)

Is Marte too much to give up for Lugo?

Who would Marte equal in terms of prospects if this is what Tampa is looking for. Also, with the Tampa outfield pretty crowded, what position could we trade from ....pitching?

Old rumor. Tampa says they want more for Lugo than just Marte.

So Vance,

You believe that Marte for Lugo would be about right? Would the Braves need to give up more.

What would be a comparable offer from the Cubs?

Personally, I can't believe the Rays would turn down Lugo for Marte. Marte was ranked as one of the best prospects in all of baseball at this point last season.

The only player comparable to Marte the Cubs have is Pie, and Pie isn't rated nearly as high as Marte. So if the Rays rejected Marte, think Pie + others. If they rejected Marte, my guess is the price is too high.

I think when both are compared Marte has a higher ceiling than Lugo. TB should have made that deal and then giggled like a school girl...

That is what I was afraid of. So it looks like Lugo is not a possiblity.

As it appears now, I'd say so.

It's also telling that in his interview on XM, Hendry did not mention shortstop as a position they were looking to move on. My guess is that decision occurred after he saw what the Devil Rays were asking for Lugo.
