Why don't the Cubs give Hill an official chance to be the 5th starter? All this talk of prospects and "potential" just see how effective Hill can be. Let him learn the job.

 

I really don't care to sign another SP, and I don't want Rusch starting.

With the mediocre offense, they're going to need all the good starting pitching they can get in order to make the playoffs.

I think because it will be difficult to create a powerful offensive lineup and not rely on our pitching. If we want to go far and make the playoffs we still have to ride our pitching. We have 2 stud pitchers in Prior and Z and then we have Wood who if healthy is a stud pitcher. The problem is I as well as most of you have no faith that Wood will stay healthy which means we only have two stud pitchers. Maddux might not get you 15 wins anymore and neither will the other options in the minors.

They had a perfect chance to get a long look at him last season, and they gave him a whopping four starts.

How much money is left to spend after signing Howry, Mabry, Eyre, and trading for Pierre? Should be enough to acquire a decent starting pitcher. I vote for Weaver.

I doubt it. They don't have the Expos payroll any longer, and he's relatively cheap as far as a front-line starter goes. I believe he's only owed ~$13 mil over the next 2 years.
