yeah yeah yeah...no trade clause and all, but I thought about it and thought I'd toss it out there.

Would Philly do it?

Would we do it?

How healthy is Kerry today? Will he be ready for Spring Training?

That would likely be front line pitching that would be close to getting it done wouldn't it?

Why would Wood want to waive his no trade to go to PHL? Perhaps if his 07' option was picked up I suppose, but then why would PHL want to do that?

I keep hearing how Wood is not going to be available for the beginning of 2006. I would be surprised if Philly would want Wood because of the injuries and how it sounds like he is not going to be ready. I would think Philly would go for something more solid than Wood. Especially since it's Abreu that may be traded. Now, if Wood is part of several players to be moved to Philly then maybe.

I just can't see it happening. Philly would want the world for Abreu and Hendry does not like giving up the world for anyone. Of course the Pierre haters/Mitre/Nolansco lovers would disagree.

I thought about that, and I'm becoming of the opinion that No Trade Clauses don't really mean that a guy can't be traded...just that he can't be traded to a place he doesnt' want to go. Philly isn't a hole like KC...in a lot of respects its similar to Chicago...There might have to be some incentive for him to waive it, but I don't think its crazy talk.

That was also part of my question...what's the ETA on Wood this year? I know we shut him down for surgery early...are we talking spring training...a month in...the ASB? Please don't tell me its another year of ...two weeks, which turns into 3 months.

I don't think Philly would take it.

Wood won't be ready for opening day, or at least nobody would have assurances that he would be. That greatly reduces trade value. Wood probably wouln't waive his no trade unless Philly at least picked up the team option, which further devalues him in a trade.

Now, I think there's a chance that you could talk them into it if you sweetened the pot, say including Williams to cover for Wood for now. But then the Cubs are down to 2 good pitchers, one 5th starter and one bad starter.

Actually they didn't shut him down early. After deciding he would need surgery, they delayed it so he could throw meaningless bullpen innings, putting at risk his timetable for 2006.

I originally laughed but then I realized it was true. Good times 2005.

I like Wood. I really do. But assuming the offer was on the table and Wood would waive the NTC, I'd make this trade. In fact, I might even kick back a low level prospect to make it happen...though I'd probably try to get Philly to send Padilla to us in return.
