The Cubs have targeted four potential leadoff men to replace Furcal on their drawing board, according to teams that have spoken with them. Those four are Pierre, Tampa Bay's Julio Lugo, Washington's Brad Wilkerson and Tampa Bay's Joey Gathright. Because the Cubs have made the leadoff spot their No. 1 priority -- as opposed to any particular position -- they haven't locked themselves into a pursuit of any one member of that group. The Cubs have no interest in Damon, according to one Cubs official.

Wilkerson should be the top target of that group, but I fear it is Pierre.

We all know you love Wilkerson.

I think you might get your wish, though. It's no secret that Jim Bowden has always been infatuated with c-patt.

Corey + Guzman + Nolasco = Wilkerson

Maybe so, but with the Yankees involved in the Pierre derby and Florida's apparent preference to deal to AL teams I think that Hendry will be forced to plan B (hopefully Wilkerson).

I sure hope that isn't true.

That seems like ALOT to give up for Wilkerson.....

and I stiil can't figure out why we're targeting Gathright - what's the difference between him and Hairston?

I think Gathright's faster. :D

as long as they aren't clogging up the bases...

Can Wilkerson catch the ball?

nope. He has played for several years and has yet to make a put out.

in fact, he has no arms.

Makes it kinda hard for him to swing the bat then.

If it's true that Wilkerson has no arms, then I pass.

I doubt he'll win a gold glove in CF, but I think he's certainly capable of playing the position on an everyday basis. If he puts up a .360+ OBP and a .450+ SLG as a CF (basically his career averages), I wouldn't complain. There a very good chance that he'll do better than that.

It's just my opinion of what we might have to get up, I didn't read it as a possibility anywhere.

Secondly, I don't think it's too much to give up at all. Guzman hasn't done -anything- at the major league level, and neither has Nolasco. Our pitching is set anyway with Prior-Z-Wood. Who cares about Corey. Plus, I mean look at the market right now, it's crazy. It might take even more than Corey/Guzman/Nolasco.

I can't take it anymore. This franchise is desperate for a WS as we/I am desperate for a World Series. Nonetheless I don't care who JH targets anylonger as long as it raises the W Flag more often than not. Otherwise quit agravating me with sub-par player rumors. I don't have any answers just alot of questions for one JH. Nonetheless I will continue reading for another 6 months and chime in again. Seacrest Out!
