Percent is the percent chance of being picked.

Cubs:

Chadd Blasko - RHP Cubs - Age 25 - 10 percent

Didn't pitch last year after shoulder surgery in 2004. 94-mph fastball and plus curve, if he ever makes it all the way back.

Bobby Brownlie - RHP Cubs - Age 25 - 10 percent

2002 first-round pick still hasn't recovered his velocity. Had a 4.74 ERA in 14 starts and 13 relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa last season.

Billy Petrick - RHP Cubs - Age 21 - 25 percent

Underwent shoulder surgery after posting a 5.59 ERA in nine starts for Single-A Daytona. Sinker-slider pitcher was viewed as one of the Cubs' best prospects.

Russ Rohlicek - LHP Cubs - Age 26 - 15 percent

Big lefty reliever with a good arm. Walked 45 in 62 1/3 IP for Triple-A Iowa, so the Cubs were right to leave him unprotected.

Brandon Sing - 1B Cubs - Age 25 - 60 percent

Followed up .270/.399/.571 season at Single-A Daytona by hitting .276/.404/.538 in Double-A in 2005. Right-handed hitter could help an American League team. He's a below average defender at first base, and the Cubs felt he was hopeless in left field.

Interesting. I could have sworn that someone here had personally watched him play and attested that his D in LF was okay. Also that he was at least average at 1B.

Brandon Sing could in theory get picked up by the Royals allowing them to get back to back prospects. He could easily hide out there for a year.

And the Reds' Kevin Howard looks like a solid lock for the Marlins too. They could easily stash that guy on the all prospects team.

I suppose someone could draft Sing but why draft a guy unless he has some really serious potential? It would be one thing to draft a guy like Doparik, hide him for a year then send him to fall league and back to the minorsbut Sing is a little long in the tooth as a prospect. He might make a good bench player but so what.

If you're running a team with a small budget, could use a little power off the bench or someone to fill in as an OF/1B/DH occasionally at little cost, why not take a chance on him?

However, I'm not sure the Royals would be the best fit as some have mentioned, considering they have (to my knowledge anyway) Stairs, Harvey, Pickering, and Sweeney as 1B/DH types. Sing would be a bit redundant for them, and I'm not sure they'd throw him in LF everyday.

I am definately in the minority, but I think Sing has the potential to be a solid major leaguer, even as a starter. He gets on base and has lots of power.

Now hes pretty old, 25-26 by now? So he doesn't have the oppurtunity to falter another year, but if he keeps hitting he could be ready as a major league backup later this year.

I could him becoming a .850+ OPS player if it all pans out and at least a 800+ OPS.

Would have liked to see him on the 40man. Hopefully he can't stick anywhere.
