    Cubs Video

Bruce Levine tweeted the Cubs are meeting with Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki.

Sasaki is going to be pursued by nearly every team in baseball (probably not the Rockies because, you know, it's the Rockies). Sasaki is not the typical Japanese player posting; like Shohei Ohtani, special rules apply to his posting and he is limited to signing a contract within a team's international signing budget allotment. He will then be subject to six years of team control, becoming arbitration-eligible after three seasons like any other "typical" prospect.

Sasaki will play his age-23 season in 2025. In Japan, he has a career 2.02 ERA in 414 innings pitched. The young Japanese hurler is represented by Joel Wolfe, the man who also represents Seiya Suzuki.

Same. As tight lipped as the FO is we may not even hear about an elimination.

That is a good point. So if they sign IFA we know they know.

It's interesting the amount of this that's coming from LatAm heavy reporters.  Totally believable, one of the first things I'd do as a GM who just got the breakup call is shore up my IFA affairs ahead of Wednesday.

But I always assumed this would be a Passan bomb or some dumb wetbutt type of situation. Never really considered the in between.

I think its unlikely he's coming to Chicago. But yah, that doesn't seem to be a very reliable account. Could easily just be trying to gain some fame, because saying the Cubs are out is a fairly safe bet.

Mike isn't wrong a lot. He's wrong almost 100% of the time.

Yeah, I would entirely ignore everything Mike Rodriguez ever tweets. I haven't a single recollection of him being first to anything. He was the one driving the ship that Correa and the Cubs had a lot of smoke, only to find out at the end, there was little smoke there at all.

They probably still wont get Sasaki, but Mike doesn't know.

Maybe just semantics, maybe it's copium, but the way Mike tweeted his thing is different.

"The Rangers have been informed", "The Yankees have been informed". Mike didn't tweet that. "My source". It feels...clout chase-y.

So if we ignore Mike, the four teams whose fate we don't know are:

    Dodgers

    Padres

    Jays

    Cubs

There's also potential for a team who has not yet been mentioned in the process to still be in.  After all I don't think we knew about the Jays until this AM.

Brett at BN mentions the Mariners too.

I was wondering about them, I couldn't remember if we heard they got a meeting or if they were just a team that was hot and heavy for him before he posted.

The Jays would be the funniest, and probably the best analogue to Ohtani picking the Angels.

Jesse Rogers stated in another reply that Sasaki *didnt* visit Chicago. This is different from what he said on the radio the other day, which was "he believed" he didn't visit.

    Hard to tell if thats:

    1. New information

    2. The same information, but misspoke and made it sound more definitive this time.

We did just learn about the Toronto visit and it could have been something Rogers just didn't get wind of, as well.

Well there you go. Hopefully he goes to the  Padres and the Cubs can grab an arm or two from them.
