  1. Morris started off the season very well and the lack of velocity didn't seem to effect him but when it was all said and done he was getting rocked towards the end of the year and his ERA went up to 4 if I'm not mistaken. When somebody loses that much velocity and at the same time was getting rocked towards the end maybe it is dead arm or maybe they figured him out. I personally would stay away from him.
  2. Morris is damaged goods. We would do best by staying away from him. You actually respect Morris the biggest whiner and the one who said he would throw the Astros games on purpose so the CUbs wont make it to the playoffs in 2003? Interesting.
  3. Vocal Trance.
  4. NO hatred here. When I see a move I like I will give props to Hendry. Eyre isn't abad signing but he is also overpaid. I don't even have to bring up what I think about Rusch and Perez. If Hendry signs Furcal or he trades for an impact bat/pitcher I will give him the props he rightfully deserves. As it stands right now we are not a contending team. Obviously it's early but when it is all said and done if I feel Hendry has done enough I will be happy and commend him until then I will call it how I see it. It's not hatred at all. Maybe it's your phrasing then. The deal turned out to be totally unhelpful. However blaming Hendry for that is totally misplaced. It was a good deal, if Lawton would have stayed on the roids and had a .370 OBP, no question about it. It was a solid effort to fix an abysmal leadoff situation. I would say the trade didn't work out, and technically, it wasn't worth much, but it was NOT hendry's fault in ANY way shape or form. Who the hell could know he would lose .100 off his OBP just by swtiching from the Pirates to the Cubs? It's very easy to sit here after the fact and judge, but I heard only positive reactions from the majority of people on this site and Cubs fans elsewhere in regards to this trade when it happened. Well, if you go back to the thread you will see my tone did not change on the trade. I said it then and I'll say it now the trade did not help the Cubs. It wasn't more so what Lawton did it was the fact that we were already almost mathematically out of it. The Cubs really weren't that far out until they lost eight in a row in early August. We were far from done at the end of July. We were 4GB the wild card with about 47 games to go. I suppose he could've given us a spark but I didn't see the team going anywhere at that time. Injuries didnt help the cause either.
  5. Wow, so I guess that means he will be back next year.

  7. I dont know what to say. We have a lot of people who are elgible for Rule 5. UNfortunately, some of these guys could have helped our bench.
  8. Milton Bradley would be really good for us on the field and he can play any OF position. My feeling is Hendry won't go for it though. I hope he does though because at the very least he will be a huge upgrade in CF.

  10. LIke I said the trade was worthless because 1. Lawton didn't do squat and 2. Although not mathematically out at the time us making the playoffs was a longshot at best. I commend Hendry for his last ditch effort but in reality that trade didn't do anything for us therefore it was worthless.
  11. They thought a big trade was coming at the deadline too... Hey now, he got Matt Lawton... Worthless trade.. Gmab. Lawton's obp was around .370 when they got him. Don't hurt your back stretching, so you can give Hendry zero credit. And what exactly was Lawton's OBP for us because that is what matters? He was pathetic for us or do you seem to forget that part? Right when the trade happened I didn't like it because at that point in time getting to the playoffs was a stretch. It was a worthless trade. Man, get off Hendry's jock. So you give credit to Hendry because Lawton came here and didn't do anything for us? What a joke.
  12. The difference was that the Red Sox's "Idiots" were Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez. Our "Idiots" are Neifi Perez and Jose Macias. And Dusty Baker. Classic.
  13. I think there's 11 million reasons why he came to Chicago. NO doubting that one. Nobody is going to dalt out say they came here because the money they gave them was the reason.

  15. Yeah that.

  17. MacPhail's quotes about Baker reinforced my belief he's not going anywhere for awhile. Great, just great. This Organization has no damn clue about anything but putting money in their pockets.
  18. I think the Bears will lose but I also think the Packers win against the Vikings.

  20. Mench hit .254/.317/.452 away from Arlington last year. He was .262/.315/.476 from 2002-2004. I would not assume an 800+ OPS out of a guy whose 818 career is help up only by his time playing in Arlington. Good points.
  21. Why not try and get Burnitz back for $3-4m? I mean, I'd hate to have Burnitz back, but Mench doesn't give you anything more. You're probably right but at leats with Mench being 28 you might get something a little bit better considering he is about to enter his prime. Burnitz if anything will regress even more than last year because of his age.
  22. Aside from the one half-season Kearns was tearing it up what exactly else has he done? Not much, you cant argue that.
  23. Perhaps that reflects more on the need for a manager to bite the bullett sometimes and give his backend guys work, so as to save the good guys from breaking down. Unfortunately I don't see it happening. Dusty will find his 2 or 3 guys, and run them into the ground by July, when he'll whine about needing more relievers. I agree with that. He loves to play the hot hand. If a reliever is throwing well, he won't hesitate to use him every chance he gets. The workload has to be balanced. I was trying to complile a list of pitchers who possibly have been affected by Baker's use/abuse of the pitching staff. You can make a case.. Prior Wood Nen Fox Livan I fear to see who might be next on the list. I think Z might be next unfortunately.
  24. But why Mench? He's not any good, his numbers away from Arlington are brutal, even when you don't consider he'd be your RF and hitting in the middle of the order. What other options do we have for RF? Dunn would be better but realistically that wont happen. I prefer Mench over Kearns. Giles seems like a longshot at best. Not many options out there. I would probably take Huff over Mench.
  25. If we can get that lineup I would call the offseason a success.
