  1. Well then you better hope the fans and/or players vote him in. B/c Ozzie won't. If he is on the final man ballot, I will stuff it with Mauer votes. Care to make a wager on this?
  2. This, I would be in favor of. He'll probably get similar money to Pryz and Nazr because of injury concerns, but the upside is pretty darn high given that he'll only be 24 by the start of next season. He'd be a great CENTER (legit size too) to add to the winged nucleus.
  3. Luol Deng for Robert Swift and a future (07?) first rounder?
  4. I think the Bulls put themselves in a good position last evening if they DID want to make a trade for a guy like Garnett. They drafted a player the Wolves would have interest in. They drafted a backup at both the 2 and the 3, possibly making Deng or Nocioni expendable. I think Chandler, Deng, and Thomas could get it done, and their depth would still be pretty decent with Duhon, Thabo, Songaila, Khryapa, and Sweets being the decent players off the bench. Not sure who's gonna play center, though.
  5. [george costanza] Can't you desour? Why can't you desour?[/george costanza] Show me 2003 the rest of this season and all of next season (plus no DL), and I will desour. I don't see it happening, but if it somehow did, I would. So he needs to be the best pitcher in the game or nothing? I want to see him pitch at or close to what he's capable of. Z does it every year. What happens if/when Dusty runs him into the ground? Will you sour on him too?
  6. I'm pretty sure Doug Davis throws like a 2 hit shutout every time against us.
  7. Yes. No matter how you slice it drafting Colvin was pretty much a waste. Wow. I understand we reached for him, but give the kid a couple years before you call him a "waste."
  8. My guess is my tiny head will fit in one of those.
  9. Seconded! Len, we'll be the ones with the bags on. (If we can find large enough bags... :x ) I'll see if the kids i work with at daycamp have big enough bags. Most of them have like a million things to eat.
  10. I hope Len makes note of the awesome nsbb crew tuesday night in the bleachers.
  11. So the losing ways continue. No end in sight as another good lefty faces us and likely shuts us down. prediction: Cubs lose 7-1. Solo home run by Lee gets frenzied fans excited in the first, only to have the Cubs inexplicably break their erroneously optimistic hearts again.
  12. When Pagan gets back, we'll see how Dusty does.
  13. I have nothing to back this up, but Maddux and Walker both make sense as potential trade targets and a team like the Mets could use both guys. Maddux would be a mediocre option at the back end of the rotation while Walker would be a perfect compliment to Jose Reyes at the top of the order, and allow them the luxury of moving Lo Duca down in the batting order. Suffice to say, I don't feel this Jose Valentin resurgence will continue on the Mets' end. This just seems like it would be a good fit for the Mets. Who would the Cubs be looking to get back? Maybe a guy like Victor Diaz? I'm not really into the Mets' farm system, so maybe somebody would have a good idea of what the Cubs could possibly get back in return.
  14. I think some nsbb'ers should chip in when it gets us on Sports Center too. Hopefully its an embarassing game, so the protest coincides with the performance.

That's about right. I don't necessarily consider Tyson at his money an "asset"
  16. Thank you. Jered Weaver under control for six years or possibly losing Aramis for nothing at season's end? hmmm.... If we are going to analyze it like this, shouldn't we assume that the Angels would need to look at it like that also? Why would they trade Weaver for a guy who could opt out of his contract at the end of this year? I'm looking at it from the same standpoint you were initially. Your comment was referencing the trade would be wrong because we'd be losing our third baseman. In no way did you make any mention of the Angels giving up Weaver. And I believe they'd never go for it. If it was on the table, I'd be pissed at Hendry if he didn't bite.

  18. Someone tell me why I shouldn't bet an insane amount on the Twins.
  19. Jake, you are an awesome contributor. Thank Kent for your presence!

My guess is that would be done when Skiles feels comfortable with having both Deng and Nocioni out there. 9 is a really good spot to be at, especially if the Shelden to Atlanta rumor is true...
  21. Mark_R

Very true. He's a huge liability offensively if he doesn't improve, thought. I could see Skiles playing Pietrus too much and the Bulls already subpar offense suffering for it. But even if he plays a semblance of defense, the drop off from Tyson would be pretty significant. You'd have to hope this year's picks at 2 and 9 would fill in the defensive hole in the front line that Tyson's departure would bring. Like I said, interesting. On the second point, if you draft Thomas, Troy's minutes might hover around 25 or less, making his shortcomings less of a liability while the (hopefully bulked up...) Thomas is garnering near legit starter's minutes and playing really strong D. I think Murphy would get the message: play defense or don't play.

Love this idea. It's intriguing. Not a slam dunk, but I'd be excited to see who they would draft at 9 if it happened. Williams or Simmons would be nice. Some reasons for concern: Although Murphy saves you a couple million a year and significantly outproduced Tyson this past season -- 15.93 PER to 12.23 PER -- Tyson's 2004-05 PER was right in line with Murphy's, he's three years younger, and he's so much better than Murphy defensively, I'm not sure how to measure it. Pietrus is an excellent defender. His production was pathetic last year, though -- 10.21 PER. He's a year older than Tyson, so he's got a good chance to bounce back. They strike me as very similar players, in fact. You dislike Tyson so much; why so high on Pietrus? I think a guy like Pietrus allows Hinrich to conserve more energy on the defensive end when matched up with elite 2 guards (Wade, Carter, Rip, etc.) I would be optimistic about Skiles to get Troy to play SOME semblance of defense. His board skills aren't bad, and the contracts are just about a wash. 7 picks higher is the icing on the cake.

Another deal Chad was throwing out there was the possibility of a Tyson to GS swap... Love this idea. I'm not a big Troy Murphy fan, but he could be servicable off the bench or in a partial starting role. A bit too much away from the basket offensively for my liking and doesn't really have a great contract, but his productivity is much better than Tyson's. And if anyone can get him to play a lick of defense, its Skiles. Pietrus would be an incredible fit as a defensive stopper. And with the 9 pick, they could get a BIG TIME impact player still. If you assume the top 8 goes down like this (I feel dirty, same as nbadraft.net, and i swear to god I didn't look at it... assuming no trades) Bargnani Thomas Gay Morrison S. Williams Roy Aldridge Foye There is still a lot of talent left on the board. Ronnie Brewer (would be kind redundant with Pietrus though...) Patrick O' Bryant, Sene (he would definitely be there...), Simmons, Redick, and Carney. Depends on the route the Bulls wanna go.
