  1. Wasn't it the Yankess in 2003?
  2. I'd be fine with either result...I'm going to both games!
  3. I can't remember if they put her at 60'6" or not, but I know they had a little competition to see how she could do against a major league hitter a few years ago. Richie Sexon got the chance to try to hit about 20 pitches from her. I think he made contact with 2 or 3 of them and generally looked awful at the plate. She wasn't throwing from 60'6. It was from softball distance.
  4. Ok...looks like he needs a little more support....yes, there are the Neifis/Traschels and Craig Monroes of the world....but here is a list of pretty damn good players he's either signed, re-signed, traded for, or brought up. Lee Ramirez Soriano Zambrano Lilly Marmol Soto Howry Wood Theriot/Fontenot (they only really count as one by now) Barrett (he was good for a while) Nomar Prior Piniella And by god, we're in the playoffs.
  5. I know I'm about to get flamed for this, but I don't care. I've been a Cubs fan since birth (1975) and despite a proclivity for slap hitting reserves who look like trolls, Hendry has really put together the most successful 5 year stretch of any Cubs GM in my life. Now yes, some will say that he's only good by comparison to complete and utter crap, but, still, he's had more success than any Cubs GM in my life (2 playoff appearances and winning records 60% of the time). Thank you Jim Hendry for helping to make this week possible. And, you know, if you'd like, go ahead and sign a powerhitting SS next year too.
  6. Didn't they just say Barrett was brought in as a defensive replacement? I almost spit out my beer.
  7. Might be interesting....the fewer adds is well worth it all by itself (when I accidentally click on the non-premium I'm amazed people use it at all!)
  8. I'll buy a pennant for as far as we go...I've got them for every playoff year from 84 forward...they cover a large portion of my basement wall. lawl.. Small wall, amirite? Very. But I've also got a panoramic of Wrigley, a picture from Wrigley when if first opened...a poster from the 1945 World Series, and a few other random Cubs things...so maybe I overstated the % of the wall....its almost all Cubs stuff (well, one rather large framed Guinness print from Ireland)....

  10. http://www.cubworld.com/c=nJ8pSGWCmwGORLDLo5t5hvIUp/product/CHIC75/Chicago_Cubs_2007_NL_Central_Division_Champions_Cap_-_Navy_Slouch.html I like the locker room hat much better than this one....although this one kind of reminds me of the 2003 version. I'll end up buying a hat from the farthest level we go (Div. Champ.; NL Champ.; or World Champ) and likely one of those ringer t-shirts...they're pretty sweet...either way I'm waiting till its over so I don't end up buying 3....
  11. Is it even possible for these two to happen simultaneously? Geovany Soto could make it happen. :D
  12. It's obviously going to. Didn't affect us last time nor did it affect us when Cards fans came and we swept them.As of right now, only 44,000 tix sold.. Eww....I forgot we had a D-backs fan lurking around here... :D We'll take any advantage we can get and the thought of a nice chorus of "Baseball Season's underway..." being sung at BOB just brings chills....
  13. How awsome would it be to see B.O.B. have a huge Cubs fan contingent.
  14. I'm so sick of seeing this nonsensical distinction. With the exception of today and the Sept. 14 game @ St.L, every single one of his blowups in "non-save situations" have come in high-leverage spots (i.e. tie games in the 9th or 10th inning). It's utterly absurd to think that Dempster's approach when pitching in a tie game in the 9th or 10th inning is different than it is with a 1 run lead in the ninth. He's been bad in all kinds of high-leverage spots and it's blissful ignorance to pretend like his failures in those situations are somehow irrelevant to whether he's the best option in a "save" situation. Yep. Dempster overall: .240/.319/.394/.713 Dempster close and late: .239/.325/.388/.713 Thank you. Wanna add that to the game thread too? Ryan Dempster should really thank Jerome Holtzman. It's only because of that absurd statistic that people somehow think Dempster has been anything other than a mediocre pitcher this season. "High leverage" situations? All I know is that if we've got a lead of 1-3 runs when Dempster comes in, we almost always win....if he comes in during other situations, he doesn't seem to pitch well... The reason the Dempster overall and Dempster close and late are very similar is that...well, Dempster basically only comes in when its close and late....I"d guess today was his first pre 8th inning appearance all year...if you can, separate out his "save situation" numbers and his "non save" numbers and see what it looks like. Now is it logical that it happens that way? No. But I've seen a lot of illogical things in baseball...and it seems there are quite a few closers who come in and suck when its not a save (see for example, Izzy in that same Sept. game where Dempster sucked....he came in for a non-save and sucked....but he's been lights out all year in save situations)
  15. Dempster I'm not as concerned with...he flat out sucks in non-save situations...he proved that again today...but with Marquis...I can't envision a situation where he should start a game in the playoffs....
  16. photos anyone?
  17. I got a 200 level seat for $142 for home game one...I'm going to get one for both games...at first I thought just being in Chicago would be enough...but now I know it won't. I'm going to this series...IF we were to win, I'll likely skip the NLCS...but if the WS comes to town...I'm guessing the seats are over 1000 a game...and I'm going.
  18. I got a single seat for the first home game for about $140....single seats for game two seem to be running $150-160...I haven't bought that yet, but will...thought i'd see what everyone thought they'd end up going for...if anyone had, or was considering SRO tickets? Or if anyone could suggest a better place than stubhub and/or e-bay.
  19. So all game threads should be polls now right?
  20. I just bought a ticket to Game 3 and am working for a game 4 ticket...Vance, you've got my #....I"m thinking I'll go to both games and kill as much as my liver as possible...I'm meeting some friends up there but wouldn't mind hooking up with the NSBB crew too.
  21. mmmm..... Johnnie Walker Black. Wait. Isn't getting home from school already an excuse to start drinking? Love Johnnie Walker Black. My father in law bought me Johnnie Walker Blue and Gold. Blue was awesome. The bottle didn't last long. At the going rate for a bottle of blue, my mom has made hers last for more than 12 months now. I have tasted exactly half a shot, and it was glorious. I've never even seen gold - is it higher on the totem pole than blue is? Gold is in between Black and Blue. My Wife and I travel a ton so I always pick up a bottle of Blue for my Father-in-Law, and he does the same for me. So good...I can typically get Blue for about 119.00 bucks when I travel. Thats a great price. Ive seen it for $175. Wow. I need to get out of California. I've never seen it for less than $200. It was $150 in Mexico City last week....
  22. Also...anyone know approx. time on the Sunday games? Assuming we make the games, I'm trying to figure out how/when to schedule flights...
  23. Just tell me NLDS game 4 is still going to be on Sunday no matter what happens....
