  1. i haven't seen it but i do hope there is a point to it other than "wow, poor steve." not that it'll stop me, but i feel a little guilty watching a film based on someone who clearly does not want any of this attention, especially years after the fact when it hasn't been a big story for a while and the average person would not otherwise recognize him. if someone made a documentary about the worst humiliation of my life, i'd probably be unhappy even if there was serious money involved (and i don't think he has ever accepted any).
  2. i guess an analogy is that i don't like flying very much but i'm kind of obsessed with plane crashes? also, i usually watch 30 for 30 even if it's a topic i don't care about (the two escobars) so of course i will watch this.
  3. :( tivo negligence, i thought i was recording this at at 10pm tonight but the next showing is actually 10pm on thursday. i guess i will get my gloom and doom fix by reading the reviews here. i did manage to record the game correctly and i think it'll be helpful to watch that first. i will have a hard time with the parts about how bartman got picked on, how upset he was, etc. although it would make the story less interesting, i wish he had just been some drunk idiot who didn't really care about the cubs. i'm sure he's fine nowadays, but still, watching someone's favorite thing get destroyed forever is not so pleasant.
  4. it's not in d-backs font or remotely close to it, and that is all i ask of any logo. good job marlins
  5. i develop pictures in my head of what people must look like. the reality is never as fun. for instance, i have C.C. as pat riley in a fur coat. but omg, after reading this cautionary tale i will never gossip with neighbors again
  6. confirmed, 312 is my classy beer
  7. i would pretend to be sad about this news, but all cheap beers taste equally amazing to me so i won't notice
  8. i love this quote so traditionally everyone has just accepted that there are lower standards of conduct for him, but his problem now is that he's no longer playing well enough to get away with that, and he probably knows it, and maybe that's the source of the retirement threats. personally i was more annoyed by the marmol thing though. i don't mind dramatic outbursts as long as no one else is dragged into it.
  9. that's a great picture. i still love sammy. he is just someone you root for. i was at the corked bat game and i recall that at least in my section he was pretty much forgiven after a few minutes and everyone just heckled rocco baldelli instead.
  10. i could read ten bunting threads and be okay with it and i think everyone should know how to do it, but at the same time, whenever i see a nonpitcher attempt a sac bunt i kind of feel this subconscious disdain. terrible and wrong, i know. but if they run really fast and pretend like they wanted it to be a hit, that goes away. along the same lines, bunt hits are among my favorite things to see in person at a game.
  11. Solo is indeed awesome; she reminds me of my favorite fictional goalie, Julie 'The Cat' Gaffney.
  12. That made me really really happy.
  13. I just assumed the cardiac arrest was a natural result of his injuries from the fall.
  14. I just saw this and almost got sick. Probably the most upsetting video I've ever seen on the news. While I was watching it I was hoping that since they were showing the video like this it meant he hadn't died (I had missed the lead-in), but no, he had. [expletive] them for deciding to play it five times in a row and then segueing into a story on Britney Spears v. Katy Perry.
  15. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s180/Tapguy42/MarlaHooch.png quote of the best post ever to deflect the post-bad gay joke awkwardness (edit: which was actually on the previous page and no longer relevant, but i am slow)
  16. I don't know anything about anything, but after the last few pages of this thread I think the "meanspirited teenage girls" of the world deserve a serious apology
  17. thanks buddy… see Vinestal, there are still some friendly posters here after all, keep the faith
  18. Yeah, the Other Sports and Social forums keep quite active. They tend to skew older. Do you have perform an age survey I'm not aware of? The funny thing is, a 16 year old CT pretty much kept the social forum alive the first couple years of the website i, for one, miss the constant bickering between CT and Roast
  19. At least I can tell my grandchildren that I was at wrigley for the major league debut of DJ LeMahieu.
  20. I will be at this one too (and tomorrow's game as well). I haven't been to a losing game in years so I have high hopes. If it's anything like yesterday, though, I plan to drown my sorrows in a chocolate malt cup.
  21. that was so awesome.
  22. Tom Glavine is responsible for sparking my interest in baseball when I was ten, so he has my vote.
  23. i'm way too excited for a game that means nothing
