  1. YAY, thanks southpaw! :yahoo:
  2. Drop Beltran Add Pedro Alvarez
  3. Drop Jose Bautista Add Carlos Beltran
  4. i just like when the pitcher bats—whether he gets an unexpected hit, or bunts, or flails wildly, or whatever. it's fun. i even like when they just ground out and halfheartedly shuffle to first base. so i guess i don't care how the DH might help the cubs. i would like instant replay available in every possible situation, though.
  5. i was at navy pier for a concert with a friend from out of town, and she wanted to get there a few hours early and look around. we soon realized this was a bad idea and went to look for air conditioning, and i found out about the trade in a gift shop. i remember it playing on all the TVs.
  6. Drop Ryan Howard Add Raul Ibanez
  7. Drop Jay Bruce Add Chris Davis
  8. A: Miguel Cabrera B: Jay Bruce, Jose Bautista C: Freddie Freeman, Yoenis Cespedes, Bryce Harper D: Chris Carter, Joey Votto, Evan Longoria, Anthony Rizzo, Ryan Howard WC: will PM
  9. A park and a parking lot Depends on how they do the parking. If they were to build parking garages instead of an open parking lot, I would think they'd have room to build a few businesses. Maybe I'm overestimating the possibilities. Edit: Just an example, the Twins new Target Field is built on an 8 acre plot. Why couldn't the Cubs do something similar? It's a baseball team, they aren't going to be building an amusement park and car wash. there's already a brand new funplex/monstrosity called "MB financial park" right by the rosemont land. among other things, it's home to "toby keith's i love this bar and grill" and the worst parking garage ever. EVER.
  10. i don't know HOW i missed all of the george glass references that have already happened on the internet, but i just heard one on a podcast and almost died. this is the best day.
  11. catfish was dumb and not real. i haven't seen the show. talhotblond (the documentary, not the lifetime movie) was awesome, except that someone really died.
  12. for some reason, i had it in my head that this girl was in hawaii the whole time following the accident, while getting leukemia treatment, etc. then i realized she was allegedly in california. i also didn't realize the accident apparently occurred 8 months before she died of cancer. so the love of his life almost dies in a car accident and begins undergoing treatment for leukemia over the span of 8-9 months and te'o doesn't go see her. and apparently the car accident occurs 8 months before she "died of cancer," which means it was in january, which means te'o had nothing but time on his hands after the 2011 football season was over. and he doesn't go visit her. sociopath seems more likely than gullible to me at this point. or [expletive] boyfriend ever. if he was duped, the whole point would be that she "wouldn't" meet him or kept putting it off for various reasons. i was totally catfished when i was 16. the major differences in circumstance would be: 1) it was 1999 and it was a lot harder to see if people existed on search engines and stuff 2) no "real" boys were ever going to talk to me, so i had more motivation than te'o the football star to believe it was legit. it continued off-and-on for years and there was always drama, so the car accident and leukemia don't surprise me. i think the guy was in intensive care with sepsis (!) once or something and i received "updates" from family members. there was also an eating disorder drama and a past sexual abuse drama, although those might have been for real. as with te'o, the whole thing was so exciting that i would go on and on about it to anyone who would listen. (luckily, i didn't confirm for sure that this person was actually female until 6-7 years later when the whole thing was long over. at that point i was embarrassed for about five minutes and then decided it was hilarious. it finally made sense, and it's better that a normal looking girl with identity issues knew my address than a creepy old man killer.) of course there's a big possibility he was in on it. but if not, i would believe that it was one messed up person who got unwitting people to help him (like the girl who posed for the pictures). not a big conspiracy of people out to get te'o.
  13. i'm still leaning in the direction that he was duped and lied about the nature of the relationship. my first instinct when seeing a clip of him talking about her was that he was weirdly enamored with this person and almost sending a message out to her. and i can't see how "he's a sociopath" is way more believable than "he's gullible and wanted to believe his dream girl was real." either i'm naive or he is. but if this goes on much longer without the ever-creepy ND releasing any proof, he totally was in on it (and i WANT him to be on it because then i don't have to feel bad for anyone). won't phone records solve everything? if he made up a wild story for publicity, there might not 8-hour phone calls or whatever. there should also be a ton of emails/gchat transcripts/etc. supporting his story.
  14. OR the musician friend just had a crush on him and that was his way of acting on it. i love this stuff. either way, no one tragically died and notre dame is embarrassed, so this certainly isn't the end of the world. i really hope he was in on the plot though, because i will feel AWFUL for the poor guy if he wasn't. after skimming the deadspin article and seeing a clip of him waxing poetic on ESPN, i 80% think he's telling the truth.
  15. "Homers? Pshaw!" is the best thing that will happen to me today.
  16. congratulations!!!!!!!!!! that was fun. i am probably the most thrilled 2nd place finisher of all time, as it was my first attempt and i just assumed i'd do it wrong. first half was lucas duda and he was okay, second half was trevor plouffe (who promptly hurt his thumb or something). i think soccer had trout, like the winner totally should.
  17. there are few thoughts more depressing than "if only i had stuck with AJ pierzynski" even i'm rooting for soccer10k now.
  18. Drop Carlos Beltran Add Edwin Encarnacion
  19. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-dempster-thanks-fans-with-fullpage-ad-20120803,0,1607009.story the bad part of me thinks "DAMAGE CONTROL," but mostly i think this was nice of him.
  20. the south african swimmer who beat phelps last night was so shocked and excited. definitely one of my favorite moments so far. the swimming has been a little boring compared to the craziness last time, so i went back and watched the jason lezak relay. i think all races should be like that. also, someone should say how great the gymnastics was, most notably our crazy vaulter's crazy vault. the only bad thing was that all day i was looking forward to watching us make the russians cry even before the last rotation started (as promised by the live blogs), but then when i saw it i felt awful. http://deadspin.com/5930714/relive-mckayla-maroneys-phenomenal-vault-in-super+slow-motion judge's reaction: on the subject of cheating, the chinese have a history of lying about their gymnasts' ages and have been stripped of medals in the past. there was a lot of suspicion and an investigation when they won in 2008. they didn't medal this time.
  21. i loved the opening ceremonies. the parade of nations is the best, although i feel like sending uganda (and a few other countries) an apology note for bob costas.
  22. thank god you are out of transactions and can't break anyone else
  23. i have no patience Drop Bautista Add Granderson
