  1. i wasn't sure where this should go, so i put it here. SCARY http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-woman-accused-of-stalking-cubs-boss-20120717,0,2295809.story
  2. wild card change: trevor plouffe
  3. it's hard for me to gloat about my discarded WC having more HRs than my real one. note to self: trust all bizarre intuitive thoughts going forward.
  4. ugh, however i was drunkenly mouthing off at the bar that soriano would hit a 3-run homer and then he actually went and did it. so that was good.
  5. i'm going, and we are going to win (worst case scenario we lose and i get a chocolate malt cup)
  6. drop mccann add carlos beltran
  7. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. i did some research and i think that anthony rizzo with cap—or anthony rizzo with grown out hair—can give almost all of the hot cubs/ex-cubs a run for their money unfortunately, anthony rizzo with buzz cut reminds me of this guy
  8. that was so cool
  9. my entire being is telling me not to do this, but: drop beltre, add hamilton
  10. Yipes. Tied for the Wild Card lead. i continue to really really love this
  11. GOOD JOB CAMPANA (because no one appreciates bunt singles like i do)
  12. brookhaven retreat, an "exclusive women's treatment facility"
  13. i love how they showed him looking all accusingly at the sun afterwards
  14. i had a REALLY good reason for picking AJ (unrelated to winning), BUT i am almost positive i changed my pick to lucas duda via PM on march 30 at 1:21pm. not that it will necessarily work out any better, but still.
  15. Group A: Jose Bautista Group B: Adrian Beltre, Miguel Cabrera Group C: Nick Swisher, Brian McCann, Matt Holliday Group D: Jonny Gomes, David Wright, Adam Dunn, Ryan Zimmerman, Jason Kubel WC: sent PM
  16. i promise i was kidding, of course drunk driving is the worst thing, but that line just made me shudder in particular for some reason. if they need to be ranked, though: the drunkenness comment implied that something did actually happen to her, but that it was her own stupid fault for drinking. i think that’s arguably just as bad as calling someone a greedy liar who made up the whole story. and it's not just soul's drunk post that he apologized for; i've heard both sentiments from various people. i know it sounds bad, but if i had to choose an underlying truth i actually kind of hope that she is a greedy liar, because then castro didn't do anything AND no one was assaulted.
  17. forget driving while stoned or whatever trashy thing it was; i think “shouldn’t have gotten so drunk, girl” was the real crime
  18. the law doesn't distinguish much between using force and knowing someone can't consent: http://law.onecle.com/illinois/720ilcs5/12-13.html http://law.onecle.com/illinois/720ilcs5/12-15.html (and this lesser charge is still a class 4 felony if she was passed out...) Maybe you missed the part where I said I know drunk can't consent. But in the law you reference, 1 requires force or threatened force, 2 requires Castro to know that the victim couldn't consent. If he's so drunk, he doesn't remember much of the evening either, what did he know? Hey the law can be pretty strict on this point and maybe it should be. But I've struggled with 2 totally smashed people having sex and the guy being a rapist. Maybe I'm alone in that. Maybe every guy here that's had sex with a drunk woman is comfortable in the knowledge that he's a rapist. I doubt that though. I have a hard time believing he gets charged with something unless he was pretty sober or there was force involved. Anything else and this looks a lot more like a mutual mistake than a crime. i didn’t miss anything, but (despite your parenthetical) you said “I don't recall seeing anything about force” as if this is somehow determinative of whether we're a "long way" from rape. my point is that if he did understand that she was passed out, it’s treated the same as if he had used force. yes, maybe she had magical powers that made her act totally normal while blacked out. or maybe he was ridiculously, ridiculously drunk and somehow couldn’t tell that she was as well. but i think there is maybe an even greater likelihood that he was coherent enough to tell whether she was in a state to consent. if so, he committed a serious crime (and from what you have posted, I think you agree on this). i hope he didn’t, but it’s not like it's some crazy notion.

  20. out of bitterness that i moved east and it's not as cool, i will note that you are also in close proximity to rosie o'donnell
  21. one should never apologize for that
  22. i might be late, but i haven't seen this before. the prosecutors in PA were convinced that sandusky was a serial molester, but the big break in the case didn’t come until they read a random online posting on a PSU board about a coach who had kept quiet after witnessing something. then they narrowed it down to mcqueary and confronted him about it and he told them what happened. this makes it sound like it was either common knowledge in PSU athletics, or alternatively, mcqueary has a habit of confiding in the worst friends ever. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45335880/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/
  23. i did a field study tonight and it turns out the idiot crowd is way more pro-penn state/paterno than I anticipated.
  24. if there is any place that embraces tacky and hideous, it's miami. Right. I mean. In Philly they wouldn't work, but that screams South Beach. agreed, it totally fits. craziest place i've ever been. i kind of love the uniforms.
