  1. He most definately did NOT get hit in the head...the replayed proved it and I believe Berkman said something that indicated he didn't get hit...something along the lines of it happened so fast and that's why he fell and reached for his head.
  2. If there was a pitcher's Home Run Derby, he'd win!!! I don't know...I think Hampton might have a say in that. What about Wood? He has 7 career home runs. And Hampton has doubled that plus one. But Wood would be a possibility.

  4. Ok, so I'm wrong. I had never heard that that was where he was born. Huh... He wasn't born there - he was born in Curacao (same place as Randall Simon). I believe the Netherlands have control over Curacao - like Curacao is a territory of the Netherlands or something like that. Edited to Add: Here is information about Curacao...
  5. Never heard he tried to cover up what really happened. I figured he was probably drunk or something, and the deer meat story was a cover. Hmmm...I'd never heard the deer meat story til I read that. Who knows.

  7. Wouldn't irony be him getting drafted by the O's? I'm with you, Ryan.
  8. During one of the games at Wrigley last year, Cabrera acted just like Alou did on a foul ball, that, if I recall, wasn't even close to the field. Here is a much better explanation of it...

  10. I grew up knowing "pepper" as the way people described it as having a batter bunt/slap hit balls to several people about 10 feet away and "pickle" as being caught in a run down. Spud was a great game...totally forgot about that - thanks, JC! I'm going to teach my cousins that game. Never playes Johnny Tackle or Smear the Queer, but have heard of it called Smear the Queer in my neck of the woods.
  11. Aramark (who does the food at Wrigley) sucks a**. They also do the cafeteria and catering at my office and they stink there. They did the food at my college...ate lots of homecooked meals.
  12. I have always been a big supporter of Hendry but I gotta agree with you. If Hendry hadn't signed Wilson (much less others....), he couldn't have started last night. There is no excuse to start him over two superior 2nd baseman the Cubs also have. No excuse. I feel like doing this to Dusty - :stone: He is so aggravating.
  13. Zambrano hurts toe. Here's a link from
  14. Not necessarily...you have to take into account all the votes Pujols would get during that time as well. If there were no votes at all for Pujols, then the gap would close. But, it's fairly evident he'll be getting votes so you'd have to do more than "close the gap." Have fun!
  15. I'm sure you don't mean anything by it, but it sounds like it's implied that it's shocking to know that a female can be a good poster or know a thing or two about baseball. I hate the stereotype that females can't/don't know anything about sports. It's not you...*lots* of people have that stereotype and it's ill-concieved and just plain wrong. /end rant
  16. Probably the same reason why this Cubs' fan went to a Tampa/Boston game earlier this season - because I like baseball and I was in Tampa. Maybe she likes baseball and happened to be in SD this weekend. No big deal.
  17. Haha...quit spending time with Addison...there's plenty of time for bonding and being care taker once voting stops!
  18. Great post. Couldn't have said better myself. You nailed it when you said those that support Corey at least recognize he's not doing well now but that doesn't mean he's always done poorly nor is he completely sucking at every aspecct of the game currently. Those that "hate" him have no acknowledgement of his past successes nor can they admit that he may break out of whatever funk he's in now.
  19. Just listening to Mark's press conference and other post game notes, it doesn't sound like too many people feel this is very serious. It sounds like it'll take a bit of time to heal and then he'll be back. Mark O'Neil said the injury is in a part of the elbow that shouldn't affect his pitching and they said it's a soft-sompression fracture - meaning (I guess) it's inside the bone rather than on the outside and Prior said, "it's not really broken." Take it for what it's worth...but it seems the organization is in good spirits regarding this injury/setback.
  20. Nothing we don't already know, but
  21. I guess Prior can be added. He was nailed just below the elbow during the fourth inning and immediately fell to the ground. He left the game. Huge welt just below the elbow. Len and Bob said when they know something, they'll pass it along.
  22. This is true. I read (or saw) where if a team sits a player in Maddux's position (re: vesting options) with no valid reason, that player can then go the union and through some legal stuff, get the money he would have made had he been able to play the assumed amount of innings he normally would have played had the team not benched him. So, more than likely, the Cubs would have to pay him anyway.
  23. Yeah...let's have the guy with 1 rbi batting in that situation.
