  1. Favre just threw a short pass that Greg Jennings took to the house for 75 yards. The Lions defense was tripping all over itself trying to stop it. Embarrassing.
  2. A week after Chris Gamble...awesome.
  3. Here is where Michigan State drives down the field and misses the game tying field goal.
  4. Remember how Notre Dame was supposed come out all fired up after Michigan State planted their flag on the field last year... Oh wait, wrong game...wrong sport. Cubs win! Cubs win!
  5. Ha, ha. Dusty playing lefty/righty Larussa-esque match-ups with 2 outs and a man on in the 8th inning of an 11-4 blowout. He must have really wanted Howry to get his 80th appearance.
  6. Yes, and they also clogged in a run with the bases loaded. I'm not sure the Reds turn into the Cubs when they play them, they just suck in their own right.
  7. Ugh. Z over 100 pitches coming out to pitch the 7th of a 11-4 game. You suck Dusty. Edit: Nice, quick inning for Z. Now take him out Dustbag.
  8. Gotta love that inning. Z gives up a lead-off double to Brandon Phillips and then falls behind the next hitter, Ray Olmedo, 3-0. So what does Z do? Comes back and strikes out Olmedo on the next three pitches, picks off Phillips at second, and promptly strikes out Brendan Harris. Z was having none of that.
  9. Errors, clogging in runs...are you sure this is not the Cubs?
  10. We are so screwed if Aramis doesn't come back.
  11. So let's examine rumors: Girardi reportedly won't return to the Marlins, Girardi to the Cubs is a distinct possibility. (I don't have an opinion of Girardi either way, but I know a lot of Cub fans will be clamoring for him. I'll just be happy to be rid of Dusty and hope for the best.) Major shake-up at the Tribune, Cubs could be put up for sale. MacPhail rumored to be given the boot? If MacPhail is ousted, I don't see how Hendry survives. Is this rumor somehow related to the Tribune shake-up; is this part of the smoke to that particular fire? Me (rocking back and forth in a fetal position): I refuse to get my hopes up. I refuse to get my hopes up. Can only lead to disappointment, been burned before... I refuse to get my hopes up.
  12. Meanwhile, from Paul Sullivan and the Trib: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060919cubsbits,1,2376847.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  13. Seriously, let Theriot play 2B and leadoff for all I care. Theriot Murton Arod Lee Ramirez Barrett Jones/Platoon Pie (or a stopgap CF) Quick question, who exactly are we trading to get ARod? You have give up something to get him. Exactly. I'm sure they would take Carlos Zambrano for him. Meanwhile, the Cubs would be trading away their best pitcher and getting a guy who would consume a quarter of the team's payroll. Thanks, but no thanks.
  14. ESPN still has Mateo. I take it that is false given Mateo's back injury?
  15. Latest from Bruce Miles: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp?id=229045
  16. Let me get this straight, Pierre reaches to lead off the inning. Up comes Theriot, who goes 3-0, before taking the next pitch to go 3-1. Dusty calls for the hit and run and Theriot pops up. Dusty, you won't be missed.
  17. Don't worry we're still in it!! Cedeno baby! Nah, we're still finished. It's a little bit too late for Cedeno. He didn't suck when it mattered.
  18. Go Cubs! Now with our Fecal League hopes all but destroyed, I wouldn't mind playing spoiler.
  19. That kooky Pete Rose. What's next, a Krispy Kreme donut wrapper signed by Jim Hendry that says: "I'm sorry for putting together this piece of crap team."? I would actually spend $10 on something like that and use it to wipe my.... Uh, nevermind.
  20. Re: Theriot I like Theriot. I think ideally he can make a nice Craig Counsell-type career for himself. In fact, assuming he can play shortstop, I wouldn't be against him playing short ahead of Cesar Izturis, which we know has no chance in hell of happening. Therefore, I'm all for him making the roster as a back-up and assuming the Neifi role. Good organizations, while they might find a place for an organizational soldier like Theriot, do not confuse a 26 year old minor league lifer (in relative terms) with a legitimate prospect based on a 100 at-bat late season call-up.
  21. I noticed this the other day. The Cubs have eclipsed the Pirates in runs scored and are not too far behind Milwaukee (although, admittedly, they've palyed one more game than either of those teams). The Cub offense has improved of late, but that was to be expected since the only direction it could go from its early futility was up. That still doesn't excuse the fact that they have one of the worst offenses in baseball. Having Derrek Lee (prayers and best wishes, DLee) back for a full season will help, but they absolutely have to get a big bat. Ken Rosenthal mentioned that Cubs might be interested in Soriano as a centerfielder, and while Soriano is not my ideal player, I wonder if such a scenario might not be the best possible outcome. Money that would have gone to Pierre goes to Soriano, Murton stays in left and the Cubs can then sign a Mark Loretta type to a modest deal to play second. Murton would lead-off, Loretta-type would bat second, and up come the big boppers, with Izturis snuck away in the 8th hole. Use the leftover cash to get a couple of starters (or trade for one) and voila! Of course, all is predicated on Aramis returning; I don't even want to think about the possiblilty of him opting out right now. Plus fixing the starting pitching - which has been as bad as the offense - is a lot easier said than done. But I think focusing on the offense is an absolute neccessity and if it means using up some of the available resources at the expense pitching, then it must be done. Pitchers are far too fickle to bet the farm on. In short, I'm not saying ignore the rotation, but don't let that get in the way of improving the offense.
  22. Nomah~!!!! Incredible game. Glad I got to listen to it.
  23. Yes. I couldn't get to sleep so I went to the computer and put this game on. Uncredible. If it were the Cubs who had done that in a game of that magnitude, I would have awakened all of my neighbors. ...and now the Padres score in the 10th. I'll never get to sleep at this rate.
