  1. He was 27-6 that year with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. No chance of him not winning that year. I know Clemens had a nice year too (a better one), but I'd be pretty shocked if this is the worst decision of the decade. Ya, it's not shocking that Welch would win it with that record. Check out their ERA+ that year though. Welch: 126 Clemens: 213 Oh I'm not denying that Clemens should have won. He clearly should've. I just find it hard to believe that this would be the biggest voter oversight of the decade. Great thread, by the way.

  3. I still can't understand how we had so many all-stars and that guy was not one of them. He's now tied for 4th in the NL in average with Holliday. And 6th in OBP. You gotta give the Cubs credit where it's due. Many Cubs fans were outraged that the Cubs were not addressing their SS issue in the offseason. So far he's looked really good this year. Still has horrible range at SS and tends to make dumb decisions from time to time, but overall he's been more than fine. Agreed. I'd say he's been much better than more than fine though. Among all SS in baseball, he has the best average and the best OBP. The power clearly isn't there, but he's still 12th in baseball in SLG. Especially when you consider how much he makes, Theriot is having a great year.

  5. I like the one where he cuts off Damon's throw from about 20 feet away from him.
  6. Just came across this on YouTube... I'm pretty sure that's Pie on the left, can't make anyone else out though.
  7. What an all around frustrating game to watch.
  8. How the hell do two runs score on a wild pitch?
  9. Extra Innings for the night and weekend games. Usually follow the game thread and use ESPN GameCast or whatever it's called during day games.
  10. 11 baserunners in 5 innings is not a good start.
  11. Batting 1st: .260/.362/.360/.722 Batting 2nd: .122/.204/.204/.408 Batting 5th: .316/.427/.466/.893 Maybe he doesn't need time off, but rather just needs to be moved down in the order.
  12. I don't want to start a new thread, but... how seriously do you consider DFAing Bob Howry pretty soon? His contract is up at the end of the year, and let's face it, he's been pretty bad this year. If there's a market for him, obviously you look to trade him first, but if there's not any interest you almost have to look at releasing him.
  13. So what's the rotation looking like for the rest of this series?
  14. This thread makes my head hurt.
  15. I just hope he comes back and pitches well.
  16. Why wouldn't they bunt him over? So odd even though its on the road you have to tie it before you can win it. I would have bunted him over. Now some catcher named Hundley is batting...
  17. Joe Morgan is what, in his 50's or 60's? If he's still bitter towards Ryno, he needs to stop acting like a baby and grow the hell up. What an embarrassment.
  18. Padres score to make it 4-3. Tieing run on 2nd, noone out.
  19. Careful: your prejudices are showing. Not really.
  20. The biggest problem with giving it to the team with the better record is timing. You can't just announce where Game 1 of the World Series is going to be two days before the game is played. And that could be a very likely scenario. Um, actually, you are already doing that. For example, last year, no one knew if it would be Boston or Cleveland until after the ALCS was over. They do it for every other round of the playoffs, and in every other sport. That's not the same thing. Cleveland and Boston could both sell tickets to Games 1 and 2 of the World Series last year. Colorado and Arizona could both sell tickets to Games 3 through 5. If they did it based on record, then Boston could've had home field advantage against Colorado and not against Arizona (hypothetical, I don't know what their records were). Which makes it tough on people who buy tickets to Home Game 1. They can't exactly book a flight and hotel for game one, only to find out that they're actually going to game three.

  22. Derwood, if I didn't know that you were married with a kid, I'd think you were gay. You're always the first to pop in when a comment like the one earlier is made. Not that there's anything wrong with it... just saying.
  23. Greene has sucked at home this year, and he's even been worse on the road (.212/.228/.298/.526). No thanks.
