  1. Murton this month: 207/258/224/482 Wow. Maybe sending him down isn't a bad idea afterall. At least he'd get to work with a competent hitting coach.
  2. Thanks guys. No shocker that Neifi is playing a lot. I guess Womack came back to earth? When is Barrett scheduled to return?
  3. I've been busy with a new job for the past week or so and haven't been able to keep up with the Cubs. I have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys could answer for me. 1. I read about a possibility of a platoon with Murton and Bynum in left... has that really happened, or was it just a mention of it being a possibility? 2. Who's been getting the bulk of playing time at second lately? 3. Is Nevin the backup catcher while Barrett is suspended? 4. I read a headline saying Wood might be done for the season. What?! 5. What's up with Prior and his horrible first start? What did he say after the game? 6. How has Pierre been lately? And what about Aramis? Any consistent improvement? 7. Who has been batting 2nd? Thanks a bunch!
  4. I must've missed it, but I'm guessing that Barrett is serving his suspension? Did they reduce it after the appeal?
  5. I could see Zambrano disliking the Dustman.
  6. What? Why the hell is Rusch starting again? How many more chances is this guy going to get? He freaking SUCKS!
  7. I suppose that depends on what you consider "outproduced". Giles has scored 12 more runs, driven in 6 more RBI, and has a .388 to .327 OBP advantage over Jones while playing in a much tougher park to hit. I don't see it as coincidental that Giles numbers dropped significantly when he moved from Pittsburgh to San Diego. See how his SLG dropped in 2003 from Pittsburgh to San Diego. See any other player on the Padres team and how their SLG's dropped when they moved to Petco. It's a simple question. Who would you rather have? Jones, Neifi and Rusch or Brian Giles? Well, runs scored and RBI's are obviously team stats and therefore irrevelant, but I will address the rest of your post. No one is going to say that Jones is better at getting on base than Giles is. But the fact is that Jacque has a much better OPS than Brian does. And as for your last question, I'd rather have Giles because he gives us something that we desperately need - an ability to get on base 2 out of 5 times a game. But you overlook that Jones and his 6 million dollar salary has been better than Giles and his 12 million (?) dollar salary this year, park factor or no park factor.
  8. I'm not buying your argument that his numbers are lower than Jacque's because of the division he plays in. Giles has played a whole 2 games in Dodger Stadium, 2 in AT&T Park, and 3 in Chase Field for a combined 32 at bats, and he has 11 hits in those 32 at bats (about a .340 average). Oh, and he has an OPS over 1300 in both AT&T Park and Chase Field. And I don't think I need to mention Coors Field. The bottomline is that Jacque Jones has outproduced the much wanted Brian Giles. For half the cost. Can we at least wait until the 3/4 of the season is over to proclaim JJ a good buy. He's been doing well but the season isn't eve half over yet. Well I never said he was a good buy, but he's obviously been a better purchase than Giles. And are you serious about waiting 3/4 of the season to judge him? That's pretty silly to suggest waiting til he has played 120 games to compare him to other offseason options.

  10. One good season? Wrong. He had one great season - a Cy Young worthy season. And his other three seasons have all been good. His ERA+ for the past two years is 113 and 116, respectively. And last year, before he got hurt in June, his numbers were ridiculous - an ERA around 2, a WHIP around 1, and a BAA below .200. Oh, and a 4:1 K to BB ratio (These numbers were rounded after looking at his month by month stats). Is it safe to say that he would have maintained these numbers over the course of the season? Not necessarily. But I do think it's safe to say that his season totals would have been much closer to these than the ones he put up after returning from injury. Prior's good - real good - he's just got to stay healthy. Can't argue with that.
  11. Right, because that's exactly what I meant to imply. After a very strong outting from Prior last night, I expected to come here and read positive things about it. Instead, I read three pages of mainly negative posts about the situation. One of the best pitchers in baseball is either ready or almost ready to join our rotation... that's a big deal and something to get excited about, especially considering that the Cubs haven't given us a whole lot to get excited about this year. I just expected a more positive attitude I guess.
  12. Boy, I'm sure that Prior just loves reading threads like these. Didn't he say at the convention that he had read the "message board stuff?" Way to make him feel like us Cubs fans want him here! Personally, I think it's great that he had a successful outting last night. Correction - a great outting last night. He's one of my favorite Cubs and I can't wait to see him pitch in the majors (hopefully this Sunday against Detroit).
  13. Well it appears that Prior is ready to make his first start for the Cubs this year. I hope they call him up to start on Sunday.
  14. Haha, are you serious? Bases loaded and the batter swung at a 3-0 pitch?!
  15. Thanks for the detailed play-by-play, Raisin.
  16. Pettitte has been tough this year, dude. Gotta play for that one run.
  17. I wouldn't argue the point with you, as stated, but at the same time, I defy you to name somebody on our roster that hits right handed and has outproduced Neifi hitting in the second slot. Now, that's pathetic, no? I don't remember if Dusty has ever hit him there, but I'd like to see Murton bat second. I'd bet my bank account (pretty small bet) that Murton would outproduce Neifi in the 2 hole.
  18. Neifi Perez should never start for the Cubs. Ever. Let alone hit 2nd. ](*,)
  19. Why has Mench lost the starting job?
  20. Over/Under on number of days until he announces his retirement? He's basically already announced it. He asked for the DBacks to release him, they did, and his agent said that he doesn't expect Grimsley to play again.
  21. Why do you want Maddux for two more years, let alone one more year?
