  1. Ha, the Cubs are providing no run support for Zambrano. What a shocker.
  2. How would he lose money!!?? We've got so many revenue streams. Last year the Cubs had @ $100 million dollar team and they made @ 10 million in profit. You do the math. The Cubs made a 7.9 million dollar operating profit in 2001. That same year, Forbes also said that the Cubs were worth 287 million dollars. If the recent reports of a worth between 500 and 600 million are correct, then I'd say that the Cubs had a profit of at least 20 million last year, at a minimum. That's just a guess though, obviously.
  3. Oh great, Neifi is playing against a lefty! I can't wait to see Neifi and his .371 OPS (yes, OPS) against lefties in the lineup tonight!
  4. I would, which is crazy. Spend a few years in Chicago and then we'll talk. Give me a break. The success of the Cubs is priority 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. It doesn't matter who a trade is with, if it makes the Cubs better we should do it. At no point should it EVER be of concern how much flak the fans will take if the trade doesn't work out as planned. Again, spend a few years in Chicago and then we'll have this discussion. That's stupid. I've been surrounded by Cardinals fans all of my life. I'd say that 95% of my friends are Cards fans. If there was a trade that would help the Cubs but run the risk of me hearing trash talk from my buddies, I'd want the trade to happen 100 times out of 100 opportunities. Maybe I'm just more of a Cubs fan than you are, I don't know. And I don't mean that as an insult or a "I'm better than you" in any way. I just can't fathom having the attitude that you have about this.
  5. I would, which is crazy. Spend a few years in Chicago and then we'll talk. So what you're essentially saying is that on any given day, you'd rather be able to make fun of a Sox fan than see the Cubs win, if given the choice between the two? No, I'm saying that we cannot allow a trade with the White Sox to turn out to be Garland-Karchner. I want the Cubs to win a World Series, but only do it w/ the White Sox help if the trade would help us now AND in the future. Well first off, Garland isn't exactly a good pitcher. Granted, I'd say that the Sox got the better end of the deal, but it's not like we gave up a great pitcher or anything. Prior to last year, he had always been below average as a starter, and this year he has flat out sucked (his ERA is over 6). Simply put, I think you're putting too much stock into what your Sox fan friends have been saying about that trade. Garland is mediocre at best. And I agree with what you said about trades... only do it if it helps us. Rival fans and what they might say should have absolutely no bearing on an offer that was on the table.

  7. Win ballgames and you'll win the PR part. Don't forgo a good trade because you aren't fleecing the other team and you have a better chance of winning. It's different in Chicago. Cubs fans have 2 enemies: The Cardinals and White Sox. You may not have to deal w/ the White Sox crap out in CA, but I don't want to deal w/ moronic Sox fans. Good point. They are some of the most obnoxious people on the planet. They're the most obnoxious people on the planet. Not to mention they're also the rudest and dumbest people as well. Sox fans are rude, dumb, and obnoxious. I hate their fans. Yeah, I think we all get that.
  8. I wouldn't do that, because some sources claim that Grimsley also points to Derrek Lee using HGH. If this is true i'm just going to cry. What "sources" would those be? And how the heck would Jason Grimsley know something like that about Lee, if it were true? They've never played on the same team, and I'm pretty sure that the two have never even been in the same stadium at the same time.
  9. People root against Womack because they think that if he does well, Hendry will give him a two year contract to be our starting second baseman next year. I really doubt that will happen, but that's what some people think. It gets pretty annoying to constantly read on here about how people hope that Womack sucks and they hope that the Cubs lose. Long term, short term... I don't care what time frame you're thinking of, if you're a Cubs fan you simply don't root against them. I'm sorry, but that's stupid to root against your team in order to hopefully be better next year - this isn't football. And as for Nevin... one, he's hitting 216. 216!!! Now I could understand if he was actually a good hitter, but to complain about a guy not getting playing time who's career is almost over? Come on. Nevin sucks and to whine and moan about him not playing is just silly. And besides... when he first joined the Cubs, he played in his first 5 games. He's now gone 3 games without playing. I don't know the circumstances that led to him not getting in the game for the past three games, but does it really matter? Hendry acquired a bat for the bench and that bat has played in 5 out of 8 games. Complaining about Nevin's lack of playing time is just mind boggling.
  10. Again? Screw this, I'm done with Kerry Wood. I hope he comes back and makes a couple starts before the ASB so we can trade him and get something - anything! - for him. Good riddance. What a complete waste.
  11. We finally get a good pen and have two real good guys locked up for the next couple years and we're going to trade them? I don't care how bad we are this year, that's just stupid.
  12. Random. Len was talking about Kerry "being penciled in" for Sunday's start but not necessarily a lock to make it. Oh, I see. I'm not watching the game, so I didn't know.
  13. Wow, Womack hit a home run?
  14. Is Freel playing nearly everyday this year?
  15. I never thought I'd see the day where people were complaining that a .214 hitter wasn't starting.

More like 10% of the time, if that.
  17. I say it right now. Hill will never be a effective starter. There I said it and I will stand by it. I hope that I'm wrong....I really do. I agree with you, I think that Hill is nothing more than a AAA pitcher. But, I'd still rather see him start than Glendon. Hill can prove me wrong (and I hope he does), but there's no way that Glendon will just suddenly stop being a bad pitcher.
  18. I don't want Rusch starting tonight, but again who else do we have? What do we do Bring up Hill for another walk filled start and send him back down? I mean what choice do we have... What choice do we have? I just listed several options. You're acting as if Rusch is the only guy the Cubs can have start tonight. Rusch sucks at baseball and he's proven that again this year. He shouldn't be starting. You haven't listed options. Hill just started Sunday and would be pitching on 4 days rest. Marmol just Pitched Tuesday and we are going to need him on Sunday. Gooz needs another year of just pitching the ball in the minors. So again there is no choice besides Rusch. ...Williams, Ryu, etc. Please stop pretending like Rusch is the only option. It's just ignorant. Williams, Ryu etc...These aren't options! Look, I can't stand Rusch but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that any of the pitchers you listed can do any better. It's not being ignorant, just realistic, as sad as that might be. Exactly, you haven't seen it because they havne't been given the opportunity. Am I saying that any of those pitchers will absolutely be better than Rusch? No. Is there a good possibility that one of them will be? Yes. With our season in shambles, what's the point in going with the veteran who sucks rather than going with a kid who has good stuff and has pitched well in the minors?

  21. Who do you have in mind? Hill, Guzman, Marmol, me, you. Seriously, Glendon sucks and everyone knows that he sucks. While Hill has sucked at the major league level, there's the chance that he might pitch well. Gooz might pitch well. Marmol might pitch well. With Glendon, you know what you're getting - a crappy pitcher. It's stupid to trot him out there instead of a pitcher that hasn't proven to be a bad starter. Marmol is pitching Sunday and Hill and Guzman can't make it out of the 3rd inning. Glendon last start was very good vs. the Cards. He's your only choice. Um, very good? He gave up 3 runs in 5 innings. That's not very good. That's not good. That's not average. That's bad. Marmol is pitching Sunday? I hadn't heard that, where did you see that? EDIT: And I don't disagree with you on Hill - he has been horrible in the bulk of his starts. But, he still hasn't really had too much of an opportunity. Rusch has had what, 10 years of opportunities to prove himself? While I think that people WAY overrate Hill, I'd much rather see him start than Rusch. Marmol is taking Wood's spot on Sunday. Look at today Suntimes and Trib. Hill and Guzman can't pitch stikes and against the Reds they won't make it out of the first couple of innings. And Rusch will? Glendon has given up 8 earned runs in 9 innings against the Reds this year. Why exactly do you want him starting against them again?
