  1. There's a poll up on chicagosports.com that asks if the Kendall trade was a good one for the Cubs. 90.9% of the 14,000+ people that voted said yes.
  2. It's no "Burnitz was 5th in the league in HRs among guys with 120+Ks" Hahaha, I completely forgot about that.
  3. Jesus Christ. Can we stop looking at OPS and OPS+ for two seconds? Is it so hard to admit that (like most players) he's not a power hitter? He hits for average and gets on base at a high rate. Why is this so hard to understand? Because hitting for average and getting on base isn't all that a hitter has to do. He has been average or worse as a player 5 of the last 7 years. Hate to break it to you, but not every player in the lineup "has" to hit home runs and doubles. You're expecting way too much. no, i would hope my players would be above average in one of the two aspects of the game. He's below average offensively and defensively. I could swallow his normal offensive output if he was anything of a good defensive catcher any more, but he's not. Okay man, a career 300 hitter who gets on base at a 380 clip is below average. Right.

  6. Bold prediction: Jason Kendall will be the 2007 version of the 1998 Gary Gaetti.
  7. Yeah, because trading a crappy catcher and a minor league relief pitcher for a guy who has been solid in 11 out of his 12 MLB years is always a bad idea. what is your definition of "solid"? He's been a below average hitter in 5 of his last 7 seasons, including an awful year this year. By all accounts he's not very good defensively. Based on what, the almighty OPS+? If you look at his average and his OBP, he hasn't been anywhere near below average. He's not a power hitter... most baseball players aren't. yeah, OPS+ sucks...batting average is clearly where it's at. If you want to look at one stat to determine how good a player is, go for it. OPS+ says that Jason Kendall has been barely, just barely, above average during his career. If you really believe that... well, I don't know what to tell you. Thing is, you have to consider the fact that kendall is at a position chock full of guys way below league average. That is not factored into OPS+. No dude, OPS+ is all that matters. Nothing else is important. NOTHING.

  9. His two pathetic years came from trying to sidearm and losing 10 mph velocity from it. And his secondary pitches have improved since then. Didn't know that. He's still a minor league relief pitcher that's been successful for a whole half season. I'm not upset that he's gone.

  12. Why are people still complaining about Blevins being tossed into the deal? Yes, he's having a very good year. But he was a terrible, terrible pitcher the last TWO years. It's not like he's a can't miss prospect or anything. He's a freaking middle reliever that's having a nice year in AA... after having two pathetic years. Big deal!
  13. Pittsburgh picking up $5.5M makes this much easier to swallow. Woah, I forgot that you existed.
  14. Most of the players disliked Barrett. Barrett was a bad defensive catcher, couldn't hit well, and Z nearly killed him. The Cubs have been great since he left. It was a good move. Everything I've ever heard suggests that Kendall is a tool that nobody likes. He also is a bad defensive catcher, and has on OPS over 150 points lower than Barrett. Seriously, Kendall has hurt his team more than any other player in the league outside of Dioner Navarro. Kendall quite simply is an offensive and defensive liability, and there have been rumors of him being an clubhouse cancer. So how on earth can you defend the Barrett trade, and think this is a good one for us? It's ridiculous. Edit: This hasn't been brought up yet, but Kendall has a FULL NO-TRADE CLAUSE. Where have you heard that? All the quotes I've seen from his pitchers were nothing but the opposite. And who cares about the NTC? We're not acquiring him to trade him in 5 days or anything.
  15. Alright, BBTN is still saying that it's Marshall. I'm starting to get a little worried. Can someone calm me down by confirming that they saw Marshall on the field after the last out?
  16. except that he's 33 and hitting like total ass this year. Plus he has no power or speed left. He's only 33? Even better! I thought he was older. And I don't know that speed is really important - at all - for a catcher, but Jason is 2nd among catchers in SB's.
  17. Newsflash... there are only 10 catchers in baseball with an OPS above 700.
  18. I'll trust the Cubs website over a show that employs John Kruk.
  19. Yeah, that would be terrible. I assume that they're wrong though... did Hendry comment on who was traded when he was on the air earlier?
  20. And in each of those last two years, his AVG/OBP were 271/345 and 295/367.
  21. CUBS WIN!!! Haha, yeah Sut... this is the same team as last year. I like him, but he says some pretty dumb stuff.
