  1. "Talent" and "valuable" are definitely not 2 words I would personally use to describe the Todd Hollandsworth that I have been watching the last 4 weeks. I'll be honest with you Hoops, I think the Cubs are missing a wonderful opportunity and should be sellers. Again, not to the point where they get rid of quality like Lee and ARam but sell the Perez, Holla, Raush, Remmy and maybe Burnitz and CPatt if the offers are right. Teams are willing to overpay and I'd take advantage of that if I were Hendry. I think selling Burnitz would be a BIG mistake. Also, why would be sellers when we are very much contending for the Wild Card, and the trib hs sunk a ton of $ in this team? They're trying to win - not give people away. However, I do see where you are going with the Perez, Holla, Remmy thing - they're all replaceable within our system. I say Burnitz because his stock is high right now. Perhaps sellers the wrong word....let me say improving the team. I think that the Cubs could get a lot for Burnitz if they were to move him. I like the guy but he is 36 years old and if a team like Boston were to overpay for him I'd jump at the move. I'm not giving players away I'm just saying that it's a sellers market and IMO it would be a good way to improve the Cubs team if Hendry would move some decent players for some way above average young talent. Of course having Baker around would make this whole theory moot.
  2. Soriano would be interesting and I wonder if he would be comfortable playing LF? I also wonder what the Cubs would give up to aquire him.....if it's Murton and Hill no way.

  4. Is Murton hot because he's facing lefties or would he be hot no matter who he bats against? Before answering, he's struck out five times in 10 at-bats against righties. IMO you learn more by doing then you do watching. Murton can learn how to make adjustments and hear from Clines and others on how to hit the slider and sitting on the bench really doesn't help once you get past a certain point. How are you going to get better against righties by sitting on the bench? How did Murton hit rightys in the minors? I just think it creates the wrong mindset by having a kid think that rightys are to tough to hit off of. I want a player to come up and think AND learn how to hit all kinds of pitchers.
  5. I don't know Don....which Chicago team is in first place again? :D
  6. I wonder if you'll have that same opinion if you're watching your son/daughter play and overhear parents saying they suck. Are you seriously, and I mean seriously, comparing labeling professional athletes who make millions and play at the highest level with peoples young children including my future son or daughter? If I overheard someone mentioning that my 8 year old son "sucked" that would surely be different in my mind, than fans chanting derisively when an opponent comes into the game to bat or pitch. Once again, are you SERIOUSLY making this leap in argument? I look at it as the player out there IS somebodies son. I hear overzealous parents complain about other parnets kids all the time at the high school level and it's sickening. Yeah, these kids are out there playing the game because they want to and are not getting millions but they still hear a lot of the same crap the millionaires do. When a parent can't even sit in the stands to watch their kid play because of the idiots that think they know everything just makes the game just that much poorer. I can't imagine Hawkins parents going to a game at Wrigley and enjoying it. I'm not advocating that fans have a prayer meeting to help the player that is struggling but when you are in a public place where kids are around I think that it calls for some restraint on some of the things you yell. The game as it is is losing young people due to the arrogance of Selig and baseball by having the playoff games on so late and if you add foul language at he park as OK well.....that fan base will even get smaller.
  7. What does the word "Sucks" come from? I understand that the ballpark isn't church but it isn't a stripclub either.
  8. Personally I don't want my kids around when fans are yelling "Sucks". I've always considered it different than stinks and the meaning is vulgar IMO.
  9. :D Now you're talking! Or booing?
  10. Dusty is a good manager for the right team and IMO the Cubs are not that team. He needs a veteran team with no young guys coming up and the ones that do get traded for veterans would be a perfect situation for him. I think of Baker as stock. He does a job that we need him to do and he keeps the fans happy enough to not revolt but unlike a stock...he does not go for the ultimate profit. He doesn't see how young players can give him the push you over the edge towards a championship team and a true contender for years to come. His lack of vision to see the big picture is the main thing that bothers me.
  11. I saw that yesterday and was a little surprised. It seems as if Lawton and Gerut would have very different roles with this team. Gerut seems more like a pickup mainly for the future, who can also help out off the bench and with some spot starts. You have to imagine that Lawton would have been plugged into LF and leadoff right away. Maybe Hendry wanted Dusty to plug Gerut into LF against righties right away... and Dusty had other ideas. Gerut has to be worked into the lineup slowly so he can have success. You have to know by now that Baker is using him the right way since the guy doesn't even have a hit yet.
  12. Something about Manny scares the heck out of me. If he is like Sosa and has to have the clubhouse his way and continues to not play hard I hope the Cubs have nothing to do with him.
  13. I'd like to see Perez go to the White Sox too, very good idea but I don't know what the Sox would give up for him. If Nomar can play 75% of the games I'm fine with Cedeno playing the other 25%.
  14. If the fans are going to boo Hawkins at least be more creative than saying Hawkins sucks. The fans do have the right to say or do what they want because they paid to get in. I went to the Zoo the other day and screamed at the Lions because they didn't come out and fight in front of my kids. I paid good money to see them and my money goes to their food so I want a good show. So, I'm screaming "Lions suck!" as loud as I can and then some stupid White Sox fan jumps the fence and starts a fight with one of the Lions. I didn't know tatoo's could come off like that.
  15. When exactly is that time? :? When the Cubs have a new manager. Ditto. Murton is seeing the ball very well right now and Baker just seems to have no clue. If Baker put Dubois in there more when he was hot the Cubs may have won another game or two....God forbid a young guy ever just get thrown in there from the start.
  16. This situation reminds me of the Dubois usage. Baker should have used Dubois more when he was hot and waited too long to play him all the time and he'll probably do the same for Murton. Once Murton cools down Baker will use him more and then say "See I was using him the right way before". Then Murton will be traded for somebody elses junk.
  17. The best way to move ahead is to beat the teams that are even or ahead of you IMO.
  18. I'd wear a prom dress to work if Dusty does that. I'll strip down to a g-string if Cedeno starts along with them. Not that any of you want to see that. I'd take one for the team and see it. I'll never be the same again but darn it a fans gotta do what a fans gotta do. Yeah, I vote that Cuse takes one for the team and sees badger wearing that. "Little does Raisin know is that Badger is really a super model"
  19. I'd wear a prom dress to work if Dusty does that. I'll strip down to a g-string if Cedeno starts along with them. Not that any of you want to see that. I'd take one for the team and see it. I'll never be the same again but darn it a fans gotta do what a fans gotta do.
  20. It's amazing to me how many players grab/hold the bat the wrong way.
  21. I'd start him in CF with Murton in left.
  22. This is a late 70 early 80 type of Cub OF right now (not a compliment) and I'm hoping that Hendry will be upgrading it with a major trade. I'm looking forward to seeing Murton traded for a hacker/toolsy(JC) type of player.
  23. That is one of the most disturbing statements I have ever heard? Peter Gammons groupies? I think I threw up in my mouth. We all know John Kruk is where it's at. I got that from an old ESPN commercial daske.
  24. I've also heard his wife is not very friendly towards women that stalk him.
