    Bullington threw very well, strikes galore and was around 89/90. How old is Paulino C? I don't like his stance but he seems like a decent C and hitter. Hill, is he there on rehab because I could run faster down the line. Sadler seems to be a 260 guy with decent speed. it was tough for me to watch the game as I had about 10 girls there for a party.

    man ram is not lazy. he has a rep of one of the ahrdest working players on the red sox. he works very hard on his defense, he just isn't very good. also keep in mind that his blunders seem to find there way on to espn every time so you see most of his mistakes. He is a below average LF and you're right about Sportcenter showing all his mistakes. Manny plays in their area and they love to show that kind of stuff.

    Don't rule out the possibility that he may acquire a starter. Hendry may wake up this morning thinking that having Jerome Williams and Rich Hill as 4 and 5 may not be best suited for the wild card chase. I still see a guy like Kevin Millwood or Jamie Moyer lurking... Good point Hoops. With all focus ....or most of it, of the draft being on pitchers in the past I'd hate to see that happen. I do understand why but I always thought that the minors would be able to fill that void and the reason to stockpile arms in the minors was to fill the everyday postion holes that come up, not to trade for a starting pitcher. Look, I still believe acquiring a slugging outfielder and another relief pitcher is the right way to go. But we have to be open to the possibility that with Wood out, Williams only being a 5 inning guy and Hill having only started once, that Hendry may view the rotation as the biggest short term hole. I wish Hill had more starts to see what he's got but you're right...it's got to be looked at. I wonder if Hughes is the guy that gives Hendry the type of info to evaluate this decision. Personally, I'm comfortable with Williams and Hill.

    On a sidenote.....If these rumors are true about the Cubs wanting Soriano to play LF I think that says that they are quite happy with Walker. I hope this vote of confidence gives Walker a nice boost. Today ought to be an interesting day for Cub fans...will Mr. Hendry make a big change, aquire a stud LF, middle relief or tweek the bench.....Aquiring fans want to know!

    If I were to say Murton hits like any player in MLB it would be Jeter. He doesn't have Jeters foot speed but his swing reminds me of him. If the Cubs can keep getting power out the SS, 2B and RF (Nomar/Walker) positions I would be thrilled to have Murton hit 15 HR's and bat 300/380 in left.

    This is one of Dusty's strengths....the whole team is involved because of how he uses the bench. I give the guy a lot of crap but he does keep the hitters pretty fresh and since the Cubs play during the day it's nice to see them coming around. Macias had a nice game and if he continues to help like yesterday I'm fine with him getting some time.....some time, not a lot It's up to Hendry to get a 1st/3rd baseman backup and upgrade if ARams injury is worse then we know.

    Ugh. No kidding. I will be going bannana's sunday at work. I hope you don't work at a place that you could hurt yourself by listening a little too much to the radio. "Kid: Excuse me...Mr., I just found a finger in my banana split. Roast: Shut up the Cubs just aquired...." Roast drops to the ground with a smile.

    Stone doesn't have any inside information. Period. He speaks in rhetorical, rambling terms. He's not the baseball Einstein than some make him out to be. I'm pretty much sick of the fact no one has seen through this. Listen to him talk sometime-he doesn't actually *say* anything that is insightful. Good in-game color guy. Bad baseball mind. Bad judge of talent. He'd make an awful GM. Look at that Trade. We take on $30m extra in payroll and give up several players for 2 players that are no better than what we already have. For Stone to suggest trading a 27 year old entering his prime for a 33 year old leaving his prime than makes twice as much is idiotic. His original idea, which was Manny and Mueller for Aramis and others, is completely stupid. Basically, we'd be trading for the 2001 Cubs. Manny would play Sosa, and Mueller would be himself. How did that team do? Mueller is basically no better than Murton would be everyday in LF, and Aramis is every bit as good as Manny. All you accomplish is taking on salary while shifting your production from one position to another, but you aren't any better. Worse IMO. It's harder to find a quality 3rd baseman then it is a LF.

    While you may be right about Murton being a part time player so long as Dusty is here, Matt did make his first start against a right-handed pitcher today. So, without knowing whether Dusty has made some decision already on this subject, its possible that Murton has already been named the starter. Assuming Matt keeps doing this well, I can't understand how a manager, who consistently has stated that he plays the players that he feels gives his team the best chance of winning, could sit a guy who is as hot as Murton is right now. Matt will cool off eventually, but so long as he keeps getting on base nearly 40% of the time and hits his way on around 30% of the time, I don't think Dusty is going to sit him much because Dusty wants to win. Matt made the start because of Vasquez being tougher on lefties than righties. I love to see the kid get a chance and move up to the 2 slot in the order.

    Suzuki as in Ichiro? Is that even the slightest bit possible? I think that Seattle moving Ichiro is as unlikely a thing as you would see. It's the knid of move Hendry likes to make out of the blue. I agree he's a fixture there but IMO he would be a nice fit in the leadoff spot for the Cubs. Seattle needs pitching and the Cubs have plenty of it, unless as you say...or I think you're saying....the Mariners just want to keep Ichiro as the face of the organization and not improve the team. The M's could trade Ibanez and/or Moyer for young pitching. Ichiro is the fixture in Seattle, who has a lot of Japanese ties. We'd have to pay an exorbitant price for the Mariners to even consider it. Crushing my dream of Dunn in LF and Ichiro in Right are ya? =P~ I just have a feeling if Hendry makes a deal it'll be one we haven't thought of yet or mentioned lately.

I wouldnt be willing to give up what it would take to get him. Unless hendry pulls off some miracle worthy of regocnition and enshrinment in the holy roman catholic church. Jimmy H is pretty sneaky that way! I suppose it's more my wish list than anything.

    I think Murton has really increased his trade value and if Hendry were a gambling man he should send him to the Reds in a package for Dunn or to Seattle for Suzuki. To answer the question for the original post, until Hendry gets rid of Baker, Murton is a part time player. Now that Baker has seen Murton can bunt, he'll be more useful coming off the bench in Bakers eyes IMO.

    Guaranteed through 2008 with team options in 2009 and 2010. Any sort of buyout on those options? Not to my knowledge. Manny also gets a 1 million dollar bonus if traded. I don't know if this means he gets 1 million dollars once, or if 1 million is added to his salary every year, but I believe it is the former. He can't ask to be traded can he since he is in the middle of a multi year contract? I'd hate to see the Cubs go right back into another Sosa situation. I agree. Now that I look at it more. Its starting to scare me. I'd still probably take him. But not unless they pay alot of his contract. I want dunn even more than before. I want Dunn and Suzuki. Move Burnitz and a ton of pitching and OF prospects too.

    He turned thirty three in may. Now I have to admit I'm a little worried about that. I am also worried that Hendry might have to sweeten the Manny pot with some cash since he can demand a trade if he is dealt in the middle of a multi year contract....yes or no?
