  1. I think that Sisco is the greatest 6'7" lefty pitcher the Cubs have ever lost in the Rule 5 Draft.
  2. If that's the case he should say that's the case. In fact, if that were the case I would bet he WOULD say it, becuase then NO ONE would second guess him. He can't handle being second guessed. That much is obvious. He has hairbrained reasons for doing things... Honestly, I would not at all be surprised if somone higher up said "Hey, Dusty, don't you think we should play the backup 2nd baseman at 2nd base?" And Dusty replied "Sure, *mutter* *mutter* oh, buy the way, Aramis is sitting today and I'm going to put Neifi at third." Maybe they don't want other teams to know he's hurt. I suppose I just don't understand why Dusty has to disclose everything.
  3. Maybe ARams hamstrings are bugging him and Dusty is playing Perez because of it. Also, he wants to give Barrett some rest and not play him. Let's face it, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes either. Maybe someone tested positive for steroids.
  4. Now the SCORE is reporting that Dusty has changed the lineup so Hairston is now leading off and playing 2B. Not to fear Perez lovers, he's spelling for Ramirez today because of the "weather". Ugh... I'm all for protecting ARam... but with Blanco and Perez in the lineup, we're in for a longgg day today. Actually a quick one. The faster they get their outs the quicker the game. By the way, I think Blanco will hit a homerun today.
  5. I wrote the 3 degrees of sprains here. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=19845&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20
  6. Maddux's history of success is also a wee bit deeper than Carpenter's too. The Admin has a point there. In fact last year was the first year that Carpenter was successful and healthy. You are right; however, he was highly regarded when he was with Toronto, if memory serves. Yes indeed he was.
  7. The Cubs still have 3 players that can play 2nd base so I don't really see the need for having to call up a kid if he isn't ready just to sit on the bench. If the injury puts Walker out for the season this gives Hairston a chance to seize the opportunity and if he doesn't it'll give the Cubs time to evaluate the 2 young second baseman and if they are not ready to make a deal by the trading deadline. Let's hope that Walker is better than the Cubs think.
  8. What does one run below average mean? It means that in 10 games Macias played at 3rd, he cost the team 1 run compared to an "average" fielder. This year they project him with 37 games at third, and being three runs below average in that time. Gotcha....thanks.
  9. What does one run below average mean?
  10. I'm pretty sure you are correct. Macias's ability to play multiple positions is similar to my grandmother's ability to drive. He's done it a lot, but that doesn't mean he's any good at it. I don't disagree. But, I don't think Dusty sees it that way. Nor does ESPN/Stats Inc.: His dad writes a heck of a scouting report.
  11. Does anyone know how Dubois hit against righties in the spring? I know he has done a decent job with them during his career but it wouldn't hurt to show Dusty how he can handle them.
  12. Let me preface this by saying that I am all for doing whatever it takes to send the Gremlin back to the pet shop. If we bring up Grieve, who can play third in the event that something happens to ARam? Can Neifi or Hairston play 3rd? I know Hairston took some ground balls there in ST, but is that enough? Damn you Hendry for putting us in this position with your Macias infatuation. I don't think that the Gremlin is a defensive wizard over there either SCCF. I'd like to see Hairston get a shot to play there and add some AB's. I really wanted Hendry to aquire a lefty 1st-3rd guy this off season but that didn't happen.
  13. Neifi is alright as a backup shortstop. Just as long as he doesn't have to start, they can win with him on the team. But there's no reason why he's the 2nd bat off the bench. The Cubs have 3-4 "25th men" yet they seem to want to use them all the time. That reminds me of a scene in the movie Parent Hood" when Clint Howard was yelling "No reason" when Steve Martins son was out there playing second base and dropped a fly ball. IMO, Blanco and Perez have to be the worst hitters and having a Macias is just making this whole pinch hit thing askew. Call Grieve up now and give Macias his walking papers.
  14. I think last night's start was a perfect example of why he was an intriguing option out of the pen but a terrible option to be a starting pitcher. He was dominant for short bursts, but he just does not have the ability to consistently get people out 2-3 times through the order. The funny thing is he could have a good outing next time and some people will say, "see, that's what we knew he was capable of all along". Well sure, with his talent he's capable of being good from time to time. But his history shows he will not be consistently good enough to be a starter. And as a starter, you can't merely be good every other game, then get lifted early having given up more runs than innings pitched. It kills the bullpen when you have guys going out there getting pulled in the 3rd and 4th. As much as people rag on Wood for not going 7-8 every game, at least he almost always goes 6+. He doesn't go 8 one day and 2 the next. Maddux and Dempster are both at risk of going back to back disaster starts, as evidenced by the last two days. Put Dempster in the bullpen right now. Go with just about anybody else in the starting rotation. Make the switch now. Don't wait a month to see how he adjusts. The decision was wrong from the start. It was obvious. I agree. Put Dempster in the Penster now.
  15. Stooge (and I don't know why) implies being a tool or pawn of another... And wow, I would hate dusty if it turned out he was a stooge instead of a clueless shmuck I'm thinking Curly, Moe or Larry.
  16. Gotta love Joe. Well, no, you don't really. But he is good to laugh at. How can anyone that's been around baseball be so stupid about it? He's won a World Series and a Gold Glove or two and that tells you he knows baseball. Bow to his greatness and admit he knows all.
  17. No fair. I was answering somebody else's question! :D Thanks for answering this, Tim. That's just the pessimistic cub fan in me! This list makes me think we will be moving some guys in trades througout the season. That's what I'm thinking! I say move Pie for some really average left handed loogy.
  18. I thought I was done worrying about the Rule 5 Draft for awhile and Tim pulls me right back in! :x
  19. It hurts to even look at those numbers.
  20. Two gloves up ML! Thanks!
  21. Man crush? I don't know about that. I think (my opinion) is that Hendry saw how Baker handled Bonds and thought that he could do the same with Sosa. Baker failed at that so I think this is when the idea of Baker being the one that can sooth anything was shot down. Now Baker has to win IMO are at worst be in the playoffs this year and if the Cubs finish in third again Baker may be gone. I don't think he hired him to babysit Sammy. He paid the man top dollar. He hired him because he thought he could somehow add value and bring this team a championship. I don't see the Cubs firing Dusty in the middle of his contract without dumping the man who made the mistake of hiring him in the first place. I disagree. I think Sosa had a lot to do with that hiring. Hendry could have not thought in a million years that Baker was a great strategy guy so his people skills were the #1 reason he was hired and after what happened with Baylor I'm sure Hendry had Sosa on his mind when he hired Baker. I agree that Baker may not be canned in the middle of a 5 year? contract but again, if they fall to third the axe may fall on both. I wonder though if the Trib may think that Hendry got the horses but Baker didn't harness the talent and this is why I think Baker will go first.

  23. Didn't he pitch for that Bronx team in the Little League World Series a few years ago?
