  1. I think they might think it's kind of ok in a way that the leadoff guy walks once in awhile so the 2 hitter can bunt him into scoring postion so the clutch hitter can drive him in.
  2. Even if Aramis stays I can't believe it wouldn't at least be worth a look at what it might take to get A-Rod. Like you said, unless he explodes and becomes a hero during the playoffs, he's probably gonna be the cheapest and most available he'll ever be during his prime career years. Hell, he could finally play SS again, where he friggin' belongs. The Cubs would play ARod at 3B so Cesar can play SS. They put one of your players on the DL and you trade for one of their underachieving players...that's the Chicago way.
  3. Is it any wonder why this organization is so incompetent? Middle of the order impact hitters walk. And the Cubs have never shown the slightest bit of ability (nor willingness) to "chisel down" an aggressive hitter. Freaking idiots. What I find ironic is that they didn't notice how much of a better hitter Sosa was when adapted and didn't swing at everything. This organization will be lost for years to come unless by some miracle the blind squirrel meets the nut. Let me add I'm thrilled that Harvey is shortening his swing and I hope he sticks to it. I wish him well.
  4. The Cubs might lose Wood so the DL list would look loney without another name pitcher on it next to Prior. I think Hendry might be a little gunshy when it comes to pitchers with arm injuries, at least ones he has to count on in 2007. IMO, he's going to go after an innings eater type guy.
  5. I couldn't agree more with everything in this post. I agree and the inconsistant work is tough for some pitchers IMO. I think Dempster is fine and will have a decent 2007 if the Cubs are in contention for any type of playoff.
  6. Letting Baker finish the season makes the 2006 season a perfect distaster. I do see Baker leaving now so he can say he finished over 500 in his Cub career and left on his own terms. He's smart that way.
  7. That's why I think it's important to distinguish between what should, could and will be done. Vance asked "should" be blow it up. I say no, you should go for it because only a couple of good moves could make this team a winner. As for what will happen, well, there's no chance Hendry blows up and starts afresh. And there's only slightly more of a chance that he'll actually succeed in his efforts to build a winner. IMO Hendry doesn't the know the difference on what's needed and what he needs to look for in players. He's going to be thrilled to death with Jones numbers in right and continue to find players like that. He'll also continue to wait and see how the market falls for any impact hitters and go bargin shopping for the ones left over. My biggest problems are going to be involving Ramirez. If Hendry signs him to 13 I don't think he'll spend the cash to fix the rest the right way and if he goes I see a Bell like replacement because he's a "gamer".
  8. I think they could contend for the NL pennant as soon as next year with just a handful of moves. There are lots of holes that could be filled. But even the best teams have a couple holes. They could build a 90 win team by next season and be right there. If Hendry stays on his present course, that's unlikely, but it's entirely possible if the right moves are made. I don't think they have the starting pitching to contend along with the fact they might lose Ramirez. I don't believe signing a Zito or Schmidt would even make a difference other than to get 73-80 wins instead of 65-72.
  9. The league is weak and I think that the Cubs will continue to think good luck and clutch hitting will win that pennant thus, the same mentality will continue and they will battle to get those 70 to 80 wins.
  10. It's already blown up IMO. This team is an rutterless boat just floating around mediocreville and will be for years to come.
  11. This team won't compete for anything called the playoffs until 2009 at the earliest. There are way too many holes to fill and if they overpay for Ramirez I don't see Hendry spending big bucks for any quality free agents because Ramirez would be the big signing and once again he'll search for such gems as Perez, Macias, Rusch, Estes and Bynum to match up with the big Ramirez signing.
  12. If this does go through it makes Florida all the more smarter for dealing Pierre in the first place.
  13. Hopefully Baker will continue to platoon Mabry with Lee and have Lee just hit against leftys.
  14. He won a Cy with the Cubs didn't he?
  15. Why does this sound so familar? Because Mr. Hendry likes too many 25th type players and Baker plays them too much? Sad isn't it?
  16. This is Pierre's prime time to get some big bucks and IMO no way is he going to settle for anything less then a 3 year deal.
  17. For a "crappy" conference I see 2 pretty good Big East teams there.
  18. You're late, the cars packed and the engines running.
  19. I was hoping that Rusch would have a Moyer like career but it looks like I was dead wrong.
  20. Any hints from Baker on how he'll play the middle infield with Izturis down ? Cedeno at 2nd when Coats is at SS, Cedeno at SS when Theriot is at 2nd ? Any chance Fast Freddie steals time at 2nd ? Probably Cedeno at SS every day and a platoon of Theriot and Freddie at second. Spot duty in the outfield for ol' Buck. And I thought Baker double-switched too much already. This could get out of hand. What game did Dusty actually double switch himself with Rothschild? I'd trade the Murton and Jones spots. Interesting to see Cedeno behind Blanco. Gotta give Freddie his time...he's earned it.
  21. I thought calling O'Malley up eliminated the open spot (since he wasn't on the 40-man), unless there were two spots previously open. If it is full, however, they could open a spot by transferring Wood to the 60-day DL. Wouldn't the Neifi trade open that spot back up again though? I think that's the spot that Coats took. D'oh; how could I have forgotten that so soon? I think you've actually blocked Neifi out of your head. You can relax now, he's gone.
  22. The area itself is conducive to making this conference better. If kids want to play where their families can see them most of the time they can stay here in the untapped East. We are now starting to get those Virginia kids that Tech and Virginia once had a lock on and have the talent rich Florida. Rutgers has just as much or more history as a lot of the Big Ten teams and both they and UConn went to a bowl game last year. NJ has a huge talent base and if you have read the rivals.com at all Rutgers is now in with many Jersey kids if not most. I admit you're stadiums are much bigger, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State than ours but in time your going to see something special out of this conference. People also thought the BE was crazy for taking a small school with no history called VTech too and look at them now. Untapped east coast market? Rutgers has as much history as a lot of Big Ten teams? There isn't much talent out here. Dilution from others sports is huge. The east hasn't competed in football for a very long time for a very good reason. Outside of PA, there is nothing to contend with the southeast, midwest or west coast. Jersey always has top prospects and as does Mass. NY always has some top guys, not the numbers as Ohio, Florida or California but some good recruits.
  23. I'll say Jake Fox too as long as he can keep it to second in 1.8!

  25. which numbers? numbers work in baseball because baseball is based on individual v. individual and a sample size that tends to exclude anomolies. that is not so in football. The numbers of what conference is better than another. Automatically no matter how poor Ohio State or Michigan are they are in the top ten to begin with and have to be knocked out. This does in fact keep the good ole boys in business.
