Actually there are some rumors that are pointing to the Rangers trading Texieria before his contract is up. And considering who Tex's agent is....that maybe one rumor that may eventually become reality. So my guess is, Texas would use Tex as bait to get some pitching. How about for Prior? :D -
Running on Alou???? Pretty brave move! Nice job gentlemen. I hate it when a player jogs into second and assumes the LF has it, Riot did it the right way.

When is the Izturis contract up? IMO the only way the Cubs could trade Neifi is when they got a "suitable" replacement.

He's the linebackers coach and based on pre-season performance, he's getting a lot out of his unit. Brady James speaks very highly of him. I always thought he would make a fantastic assistant coach. He's quite the workaholic and he definately knows the linebacker postion. Thanks. One of my colleagues taught Brady James in middle school, and the two are still close. I'll see if I can get some more information for you. Watch a Cowboys game, and you'll see the linebackers are the backbone of that defensive unit. Of course when you have James, Ware, and Ellis to work with along with Carpenter on the second string, it's not hard to coach them into a good unit. He coached the linebackers here when Coach McPherson left for the NE Pats job Coach P took over the reins here. He also played LB for Paterno at Penn State. We always had good LB's here too, he could always recruit those guys.

How many more hitters could the Rangers aquire? I thought they needed pitching but they seem to keep adding hitters. It's a nice trade for them but it just seems redundant. -
You can't tell me that Wells is a better pitcher right now than Maddux. The work ethics couldn't be any more different either.

I think they could contend for the NL pennant as soon as next year with just a handful of moves. There are lots of holes that could be filled. But even the best teams have a couple holes. They could build a 90 win team by next season and be right there. If Hendry stays on his present course, that's unlikely, but it's entirely possible if the right moves are made. I don't think they have the starting pitching to contend along with the fact they might lose Ramirez. I don't believe signing a Zito or Schmidt would even make a difference other than to get 73-80 wins instead of 65-72. Have you looked at the stating pitching of the teams contending in the NL? Look at the Reds, Mets, Padres, LA none of them have great starting pitching. The NL is terrible anyone who makes a couple good moves could compete. I agree. It's just that I don't have faith in Mr. Hendry to be the one to make those few good moves.

Nobody is going to trade for him until he proves he's healthy. By then the season will be over and he will be a free agent. What do they lose when they give up a non-prospect? That's why I wrote if he does well they give up more and almost nothing if he doesn't produce or is hurt again. Maybe instead of a non prospect some cash to help pay for the 1 million the Cubs wasted.

I've preferred Von and would love for him to be the Cubs' next hitting instructor. But Zisk is pretty good. Despite the Dark-Age idea that middle-of-the-order hitters need to be aggressive at all costs? Baby steps USS...baby steps.

How is his contract written, does he have a clause that says if dumped he will recieve xxxx amount of money more than his initial fee? Kind of like corporate CEO contracts are written I'm not sure how it was written. It might have an instant out clause once Perez was traded. -
What are you going to do when the new manager, if the Cubs do hire one, does all of the following: Bunts all the time when the leadoff hitter gets on first with no outs Pitches Z 120 pitches often Talks about how 3-5 hitters have to be aggresive Need to be able to clutch hit Puts a speedy low OBP guy to hit 1 and/or 2 And of course they have more injuries and blame bad luck while once again struggle to win games

Trade him for a PTBNL. If he does well take the better player and if he stinks up the joint take the worst guy on the list.

I think Z and Lee are going to be cornerstones even if Aram leaves. It wasn't that long ago that Z was considered the weak link of the pitching staff and there were rumors this front office was all about trading him. I wouldn't be surprised if they still thought he wasn't man enough to be the cornerstone, or something similarly foolish. I thought that Baker taught him how to be a tough guy by throwing 120 pitches every game?
