  1. I'm not sure anyone would want to be a 1-year manager. Why not? He'll get a chance to prove himself and I highly doubt someone else is going to hire him.
  2. Your baby is on top of things. Maybe she'll see one in her lifetime.
  3. Lou, Jimmy Williams, Jim Tracey, or some other retread.
  4. He then goes and buys a lottery ticket. "I hope I get a winner!"
  5. That probably gives Hendry his one year.
  6. I can't see the new President coming in and keeping Hendry around. He's going to want his own guy in there. That's what I would do. I think you need stability and having Hendry in a "I have to do it now or I'm gone mode" just isn't conducive to hiring the right manager. I'd want my people in there.
  7. I think, at least from what I heard, that McPahil is a good man and I wish him well in whatever he does. I think it was the right move to step down,
  8. To be honest though, the Marlins don't need that much more in order to compete. They would need a legit power threat to replace Cabrera, and probably another starter or two. I agree though, if anyone could land Cabrera with young talent, it's one of those two teams. I just think these 2 teams have some MLB ready mega talent that Florida would want. I'd love to hear the offers they would get for him.
  9. I think it will be that or Ramirez.
  10. "We're raising ticket prices"
  11. I think the Angels or the Dodgers would be able to pull of a Cabrera trade.
  12. I wonder if Hendry is still interested in Jim Tracy?
  13. #3 pick pick is now solidified! I want an impact player out of this playing for the Cubs.
  14. There are so many people to thank and so little time. Who will be the #3 pick for the Chicago Cubs in 2007?
  15. True....it's just that simple.
  16. IMO Hendry is going after a kick butt take charge manager. This country cub atmosphere has got to end and henry will once again go to a horrible extreme.
  17. The Blackhawk owner buys the Cubs and hires sweet Lou, could it get worse?
  18. Granted he's small, so wouldn't that make his 18 homers last year a little questionable? He also only hit 3 homers after the break. Also, what about Jay Gibbons? He's always been a 20-25 homerun hitter, nothing special. A friend of mine guessed he might have taken steroids to help him heal faster from his injuries. Hitting 20-25 HR's is a lot better than 10-15. I don't think illegal drugs have to make you hit 50 or more all the time. MLB sees only what they want to see when it comes to performance enhancing drugs. This is no surprise, you just don't throw like this at Clemens age and IMO the same might be able to said about Ryan too.
  19. How so? Cause now the Cubs might consider Theriot as the starting 2B. That's risky, since Theriot doesn't even have one major league season under his belt and he's putting up numbers in the majors that he's never put up int he minors. But if Theriot sucked, the Cubs might go out and spend for a major FA like Soriano. There are no question marks with Soriano. I'm not saying that Theriot won't be a good 2B next season, I'm just saying it's risky. Actually its not as risky as you might think. For three years running, Theriot has put up an OBP in the mid-.360s in the minors. He hit .273 in '04, and .304 in each of the last two seasons. No one here or in the Cubs front office is expecting him to reproduce his numbers since joining the Cubs. You don't have to worry about that. But expecting him to have an OBP above .350, to hit around .300 and to steal about 40 bases in a full season is a fairly safe bet, not a risky one. Expecting Theriot to hit .300/.350 is extremely risky. Theriot was several years older than the levels he was at, the Bo Hart comparison is very, very apt. I like to see a 270/340 type of hitting and him playing the SS postion. He knows the game better Cedeno and runs the bases way better. Of course it depends on who the Cubs sign over the off season to play the middle.
  20. Theriot mostly played SS this season at Iowa. About 25% of the time he played 2B, while also playing a little LF. I guess including SS as a possible position for him would be wise. This is why I do not understand why he didn't play SS for the Cubs. See if he can handle it at the MLB level, at least get a read on it.
  21. Yes, it does help. The problem I see is that Hendry is the type of person who would build his team specifically to score more on groundouts. He's sacrifice real production for so-called clutch timely hitting and contact. That 1 run, in a game when you are down multiple runs (and a season when you've scored so very few runs) isn't all that helpful. I agree and if Hendry thinks this is the best way to win games he shouldn't be a GM.
  22. You know if Wood really wanted to do something for the fans he should have gone into the stands before or after a game and signed autographs. Talk is nice but I'd like to see a little action.
  23. Two out of three ain't bad. Meatloaf disagrees.
