  1. Why do you like Loretta so much? He reminds me of a weaker hitting version of Walker. True about Jones but that would Hendry's job to get him signed long term.
  2. What has happened with Hendry and the Cubs in the past clearly has a bearing on the current situation. We know Hendry's MO. Others know Hendry's MO. He's indecisive, incompetent, and in the end will be left with few options and be forced to bid against himself, as usual. I agree. He did put himself out there for Furcal but was stung at the end and I hope this is the trend he is going to follow, know what you want and go after it and not what you said which would put the Cubs with an another top 10 pick in the draft in 2008. He's got to close the deal too.
  3. What are your top 5 targets for Jim Hendry. Please don't include Ramirez or Z or even the manager right now, just try to put down some realistic targets of guys that might be available or free agents. Mine: 1-ARod 2-Schmidt 3-Drew 4-AJones 5-Zito
  4. If you think Lee is better or more valuable than ARod, you're crazy. ARod is a top 5 player in the game, if not the best player in the game. I'd slide him back to SS move Jones to CF and find the best OF I could find and that would end it for my everyday players.
  5. I heard that....I hope Gammons is wrong. I see you didn't mention Gammons thought that Lou was heading to the Cubs?
  6. He supposedly will be available this offseason. CR, or anyone, what is the reasoning behind Drew being available? Does Colletti think he is too expensive to keep? If so, I'd swap Jones for Drew in a heartbeat though I don't know if Colletti would. That move would require the Cubs to acquire a really good 4th OFer for when Drew goes on the DL, but for the 400-500 ABs the Cubs will likely get out of him, it would be worth it. Dellucci is a FA and would make an excellent 4th OFer. Aubrey Huff, Luis Gonzalez, Gary Matthews Jr., Trot Nixon, Craig Wilson among others are also possibilities, so if Dellucci doesn't want to come to Chicago, the Cubs would have plenty of other candidates from which to choose. Drew would be an upgrade in OBP most certainly, but possibly not much of an upgrade in SLG which is why I think the main move the Cubs must make is acquiring Andruw Jones. The thing that is nice about Drew is that he is left-handed. And with Lee, Barrett, Ramirez (hopefully) and Murton the likely mainstays of the Cubs offense all being right-handed, any and all good left-handed bats would be welcome. The left-handed Felix Pie will help, but he really would benefit from another half season, at least, in AAA. And I would much rather have a lopsided line-up that can produce runs than a balanced one that can't. If the Cubs have an OF of Murton, A.Jones and Drew...I think that would help with a possible struggling midde infield of Cedeno/Izturis and Theriot/Fontenot/Bynum. If Theriot could somehow manage to hit 280/360 he could lead off but if he can't I'd be fine with a Murton, Drew, Lee, Ramirez, A.Jones, Barrett, Izturis, Theriot lineup.
  7. This is why the SEC annoys me. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9707130/2 They play each other and no one else and it propells them to the top spot? Georgia is so good because they beat Colorado by 1 and a 1-4 Mississippi by 5? Auburn with Buffalo, Arkansas St and Tulane...yeah, they better be undefeated with that non-conference schedule too. I don't deny that this is a talented conference, it's just too many of the top teams don't have the balls to play a home and home against real teams. Why..."because our conference is so tough we have to play D2 schools"...that's just the reason why they have inflated records and the conference is so tough. Ohio St plays Texas...Michigan plays ND...Iowa, well they did skate in theirs. WV did skate in theirs while Louisville played Miami and Kansas St. USC playes ND after playing Nebraska. I guess the point of my rant is that I get annoyed at teams just playing good teams in their conference and 4 patsies. WV is guilty of this too this year even though they did play Marshall and Maryland which is Marylands only loss but Maryland has played nothing but weak teams.
  8. One of the things I've always disliked about Florida St players is that always run out of bounds with the ball.....well not always but you know what I mean. They run out of bounds yards before contact, they have no heart.
  9. FINALLY!! This is why I think ARod would be easier to acquire than Derrek Lee. His unclutchiness and not true yankeeism would devalue him a lot. That and he's not friends with the Jeter. And Jason Giambi told me he doesn't like him. Yep, the Cubs should pick him up for a song this off season.
  10. My feeling is that they're trying to talk themselves into Girardi because he seems to be the overwhelming "people's choice." They have concerns about what went on in Florida. At this point, I think they like Piniella best, can be talked into Girardi and would like Brenly if the other options failed. What I don't understand is why the Cubs have to take so long when they knew Baker wasn't coming back since September at the latest, I mean really, what the heck has Hendry been doing all this time? In fairness, they had to wait to see how the Girardi thing played out. It's one thing for the Marlins to seek permission to talk to a team's third base coach, quite another for the Cubs to ask to talk with another team's manager while that team was still playing. On top of that, they need to ask some questions on both sides on what exactly happened down there. The Giants will take their time hiring a manager, too. As long as you get it done by the organizational meetings in November and don't lose out on your man, there's no real reason to rush. If this is your last chance to get it right, you better well take your time and get it right. Oh I agree with you about Hendry having to get it right Bruce. I just think he should have had the coaches lined up already and they should be interviewing this week for the job. Hendry has had more than enough time to compile a list unless he is interested in a manager or coach that is still in the playoffs. If Boche gets swept would that make the Padres sour on him and make him available for the Cubs? I really don't know much about him but I've read that Hendry seems to like him or maybe that 3rd base coach for the Mets.

  12. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/84784,CST-SPT- cub05.article Why wouldn't "losing out" concern Hendry? If he knows who he wants go get him. Is he just going to wait and just take the last man standing? Unless it's another Baker situation and he wants one of the guys in the playoffs. No team is due to let go of any of the managers in the playoffs, and I haven't seen him mention any of the coaches that are in the playoffs... javascript:emoticon I'm just reaching here cc...give with me a little! :D If this drags and Hendry ends up with Lou, I ain't gunna be too happy.
  13. Fred, I think you're the best at debunking the "perception is reality" concept ;) Dierker averaged just under 68 SH's per season and did maintain a much better pitcher % SH than Girardi did. I really like Girardi, and hope that is one thing he would change if he came to Chicago. His SP shouldn't have less SH's than his hitters overall. But he doesn't have this bunting fetish. My queston would be how many of those were by pitchers and how many were by postion players? I think if you have pitchers that can bunt it will skew those numbers a little.

  15. Torey played for Columbus under the Yanks right? I sat next to his parents and a lot of his family here in Syracuse, they were loud and pretty excited to see him play.
  16. Now there's a fascination with Grace. Can't Cub fans let go of former players? Grace is not a good color analyst. Being a big Sosa for manager guy I'd have to say I have no idea what your talking about DAL GREEN or does that just count for former players?. :D
  17. Anger Management. Let me guess, you probably would beat your wife/husband if you had one? There are somethings you just keep to yourself. No need for you negative posts. Let's keep this on the topic please. This type of post in completely uncalled for. You say my post is completely uncalled for. Have you been seeing what that Rob guy is saying? I agree that it was over the line too but yours went way too far IMO. I'm locking this thread because it's turned into a personal debate.

  19. I'm really hoping he has some secret medical condition that makes him allergic to baseballs. There is, it's called young players.
  20. I think Jaramillo will be staying. Some have rumored he could be in line for the manager's job. Saying all that, I'd love it if we could get Jaramillo to be the hitting coach here. He talked at a clinic in Jersey last winter and my friends said he was quite the character. He butted heads with Baylock all year.
  21. His name is Brutus _____? :D My money says he is a laid back guy.
  22. I guess Baker needed horses so he didn't have to do anything. I admit a guy doesn't have to prove to the media that he is a hard worker but you can just watch this team and see that things just were not worked on, especially fundamentals.
  23. If that's true I'm sure Baker will find a way to take credit for it.
  24. How many average runs did the 2006 Cubs score while Perez was on the team and how many did they score when he left? It may be my imagination but it seemed the Cubs scored more when they had Theriot in the linup, especially once Perez was dealt.
