  1. The return to the glory days for the Giants. I wonder if Bonds has a say in this?
  2. IMO there is no doubt in my mind that Jones is worried about being platooned and it's all about him. Baker let the vets do what they wanted and now Jones wants the same from the next manager. I hope a team sees his numbers and trades for him. I'm curious on what the Cubs could get.
  3. Will he manage in 2007 and where or will it be in the booth?
  4. I've always been a fan of Stone but his act got a little too annoying for me. I consider him a very good analyst.
  5. The lesser of many evils is why I wouldn't mind Girardi. There are many I like more but after the last time Hendry had to pick a manager I wanted Macha, Randolph, Piniella or Alou so don't listen to me!
  6. Who ya going to call? Slumpbusters! I'm not a Grace fan, from the read I have on him he sounds like an arrogant whiner.
  7. Geeeeeeeeez. Boras might make some really nice coin this year if he's representing two of the potential #1 picks. Then again, we all remember the last time that happened with Weaver and Drew... That would be nice if a Weaver or a Drew dropped down to the 3rd pick because of Boras.
  8. But he was when it came to aquiring other players. Here's hoping Mr. Hendry does his job and does what is right to fix this team and listen, but don't go after the players the manager wants him to.
  9. Why do I hear Hendry and Hughes laughing hysterically if they read this thread? "We have problems and this is the solution? Hahahahhahaha. Now Jim, Estes might be interested in coming back."
  10. More like a vaguely awkward speech. Think nerdy 6th grader running for student council president-level. He just fired a guy he has worked with for 4 years, I expect him to be somewhat shaken.
  11. I don't think Hendry should sound upbeat after firing Baker. Give him a day and see what goes on from there.
  12. What would those be? I'm not asking that to disagree, I just dont know much about his in-game strategy. Personally, I fear he might be a little sac bunt happy, and far to willing to give away outs. But maybe that's just because he's the guy Baylor hit in the 2 hole with the specific job of sac bunting whenever possible. It could be guilt by association. I have that fear too but maybe if the Cubs have some hitters he won't fall into that trap.
  13. I think it's because TO broke a nail yesterday.
  14. I think Jones attitude would depend on who the next manager is. Dusty gave him a chance to be an everyday player and didn't really sit him out when a lefty was starting so of course Jones liked that. Unless he's embarrassed by looking like crap vs lefties and would prefer to sit, which would artificially raise his numbers. I don't think any competitive athlete likes to sit out. I would like to see a manager sell it to him that it would be in the best interest of the team that he is platooned but IMO it would be a tough sell unless the team has a very good start and both the RF's are doing well.
  15. Syracuse vs Pitt in Big East play! It just doesn't get any better than that!

  17. Brenly would be a solid choice for SF IMO. That paves the way for Stone to come back for the 50th time.
  18. If this is true I do not understand the Francona thing at all. I'm not impressed with his knowledge of the game and if Hendry makes him the choice AND gives the Sox a very good prospect I'm going to go fishing a lot more in 2007 than I did in 2006.
  19. Then Stone comes back and takes Hendry's job after a year back in the booth and then hires Lou after Bob struggles to win. The pieces of the puzzle are now adding up.
  20. Quite possible Vance. I do think that Hendry might find out why they had problems though as he should do if he truely wants to find the best person for the job. Hendry will be in full CYA mode this offseason. He has to can his handpicked manager. His mentor and boss is running for the hills. It's easy to realize that your head can be on the chopping block when your watching the two nearest you rolling down the corridor. Hendry will do everything possible to save his job this offseason. I fear this because I'm not sure he's capable of understanding what needs to be done. My guess is Piniella will be the next manager and it scares the bejeebus out of me. Unless the new Prez has told Hendry that he has 2 years to show improvement and continues the Cubs trend of letting contracts run their course.
  21. Great. Is there anyone on the team who doesn't have shoulder and elbow problems? I wonder when this was diagnosed. Barrett doesn't!

  23. Yeah, I'd just laugh all season long with that one.
