I think there are two kinds of closers: Good ones and guys who have good seasons. Good ones are guys like Rivera, Gagne, Smoltz (also an outstanding starter), Wagner... Guys who have good "seasons" are guys like Dempster, Kolb, Tim Worrell (Giants). The trick is realizing when you have a good pitcher and when you have caught lightning in a bottle. I still think Dempster will be a good closer. Not great, but good. Dempster should be used when the opposing team has 3 RH batters coming up. He'd be perfect against the Cubs, for example. Sometimes that's a mental thing for a pitcher. It may not be in this case but it goes with being too careful and then falling behind in the count. I'm curious on his strike/ball ratio righty/lefty wise.

He's actually the opposite of Neifi. Well, they both can't hit but I thought Hill was a pretty good OBP guy that could steal some bases.

Considering that Garcia has had 1 season out of 8 where he played worse than Rex this year (and that year he only played 6 games behind one of the worst offensive lines I've seen with a huge deficit most of the time-otherwise known as the Lions :D )-I'm not sure how you can make such a definitive claim. Grossman is far more likely to improve than Garcia. Garcia is a bond while Grossman is a stock. IMO the Bears need a bond type QB with that defense. while completely depreciating the stock when it could become the centerpiece of their portfolio? That's the key Sully, know when to sell and know when to keep it. I would invest on a different stock myself if a stock is what is wanted/needed. so, instead of keeping in my mind what other good stocks have been in the beginning the bears should just panic and sell after the stock has performed reasonably well in it's first full year? I have never thought he was a very good QB so I would have sold awhile ago myself. What the Bears think is obviously different and if they believe that he is going to be a good QB then I agree, they should keep him. I don't like his makeup and his mechanics, expecially when he is in trouble. Again, those have been my feelings and I hope for your and the rest of the Bear fans on here that the Bears do the right thing whatever that is.

If he wants to be portrayed as a jerk, he'll act like a jerk. If he wants to be portrayed as a dedicated family man, he'll tell a few stories about his wife and kids. If he wants to be portrayed as a smart-ass, he'll fire off a few remarks. I enjoy every minute of it. Give me a jerk any day over a nice guy who can't get it done such as our previous two coaches. That sounds more like a guy that says what he thinks you want him to say. I understand that you like him and I think he'll do fine at ND but he has changed my mind when it comes to sending my kid to ND to play football.

To be honest, that's like saying that the Cubs need more Dusty Baker because he gave them back to back winning seasons for the first time in 40 years-it still wasn't very good. so you want to pretend like the most important position on the football field is comparable to what a baseball manager does? that's one of the owrst analogies i've heard. and he was better than the QB on the best team in bears history. And the Bears have a long rich history when it comes to QB's.

Carr would be a really, really interesting player to get. He and Berrian would have no issues, certainly. A competition between he and Grossman would be a very good thing. What are the things about Carr that makes them want to get rid of him? Doesn't he have a funky 3/4 type throw that bugs the experts? Texans fans are as stupid as they come. They blame Carr for the losing, when they should look at the total uselessness of the team around him, and the incompetence of their management. I haven't watched any Texan games that I can remember so I don't know Carr other than from his stats. One thing I thought was said is that he doesn't get rid of the ball in time to keep from getting sacked. I'm not sure of that one though.

What percentage of golfers have a zero handicap? I'd put that number at maybe 0.0001% Tiger Woods can go shoot a 5 under 67 but if someone else goes out and shoots a 66 there isn't anything he can do about it. To me that gives Federer an advantage he only has one opponent to beat while Tiger Woods- or any golfer- has to play against both the course and his peers. Isn't a scratch golfer a guy that shoots par for an average?

what would worry me is management prematurely giving up a on a kid after his first full season in the NFL, in which they were in the super bowl... if the bears didn't have such a good year, grossman would have probably flown under the radar and been allowed a proper amount of time to develop. he's a victim of the team's success, a tea, that he was an integral part for 10-11 games. nah, let someone else shell out big bucks for a 37-year old QB whom nobody really wanted until the last few games of the season. Evaluation is the key and they see him everyday so they should be able to tell better than anyone. But, IMO he was overrated as a college QB and will be a worse than average type of QB in the NFL. If you put him on a team that had no offensive line like many new QB's have and his stats would have been dreadful.

What would worry me if I were a Bear fan is that the management feeling they have to prove that they made the right move by picking and staying with Grossman. Garcia is perfect for the West coast offense and if the Bears adapt to that he wouldn't be a bad pickup.

I think he had the talent to be a decent player but not the work ethic.
