  1. I really don't understand the value in letting him play everyday in AAA. He's not going to be learning anything new there. If anything he can benefit from a different coaching staff in the bigs, and seeing major league pitching. I want what's best for the major league team. And at this point, they'd have to go outside the organization to find any better option than Cedeno for a backup MI position, and that will cost them. There's no justification to spend to find a guy that in all likelihood won't be any better than Cedeno in that role. I think it depends a lot on if Theriot can play SS. I see your point about just getting someone else that is about the same and I agree but I'm thinking 2 things...what is coming up from the lower minor levels at SS and a righty with a little pop off the bench instead of Cedeno. I think Izturis is going to get a lot of innings in this year if he hits 270 or better weather we like it or not. If Izturis hits above .270, it will only be the 2nd time in his career that he has done so for a season. That's why I thought he would be getting a lot of innings if he's hitting around there plus if his defense is going well. I really hope Lou doesn't bat him second.
  2. To answer the question, the Cubs do not have any SS prospects that Cedeno would be blocking. Technically, you could put him in A, A+, AA and AAA and he wouldn't be blocking anyone. Now you know why Brandon Wood was one of the names I'd want in return if the Cubs were to trade Zambrano. Yeah...I thought as much.
  3. He doesn't project to anything more than a utility player. He's also 24 working on 25. There is a logjam at 3b in AAA with Moore, McGehee and Matt Craig. Then he works out well then and he would also be the 3rd string catcher, correct?

  5. As long as that doesn't hurt McGehee's development because he isn't going to get any playing time behind Rameriz and Lee.
  6. I don't mind relaxed and loose as long as the players are held accountable.
  7. I don't see any reason why he needs that. He's not lacking playing time on his resume. I don't see him learning anything more by playing everyday in AAA as opposed to subbing at the major league level. At some point guys have to sink or swim. The time for keeping guys in the minors playing everyday is when they are 21/22 with minimal professional experience. Cedeno is 24 and has plenty of experience. Now he has to establish himself as a major leaguer, and hope to be good enough to one day start. I think that will depend on who the Cubs have slotted for Iowa. I'd rather just have him playing everyday at Iowa as long as it's not pushing a guy that would be ready for AAA from the lower levels and it keeps Theriot active and more AB's for the Cubs.
  8. Also, if Theriot proves he can play CF it might spell the end for Pagan in favor of another backup middle infielder. let's hope so. Right...and the Cubs just signed a Perez like stud recently, didn't they? Who was that guy the Cubs signed that actually had a good minor league average and OBP career wise that plays the infield?
  9. What does this mean? Will you be shocked if he has an era between 4 and 6? Marquis' ERA will definitely be a predictions contest category. Be sure to enter. I meant that the range of possibilities for Marquis is much bigger than most pitchers because he has no consistent year-his ERA is either good to great or terrible, with nothing in between. He's a dow joneser baby!
  10. What does this mean? Will you be shocked if he has an era between 4 and 6? Marquis' ERA will definitely be a predictions contest category. Be sure to enter. How can I can put down what I think it is when my keyboard doesn't have the infinity symbol?
  11. Make WGN television pay them a fair price for the broadcasting rights. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, eh? Would that work since they own both? Maybe a supersports station like YES?
  12. I wonder if there's a correlation between the number of games attended at the park and dislike of this move. I've attended 35+ games a season since 2000 and I hate it. Some of the strongest proponents of the change in this thread live hundreds of miles away from the park. That's probably true. What would you suggest they do for extra income?
  13. I wonder if that's how Benson got hurt?
  14. Where's that Eddie Murphy skit when he's James Brown singing "Hot Tub"?
  15. Or, how does one fall out of a hot tub and bruise their ribs? Or, how is someone dumb enough to fall out of a how tub? The Cubs can't afford mats to put around the thing? I wonder if the press will have pictures of the hot tub on the news? Some of those things can be pretty tricky getting out of but you're right you'd think they would have a nice safe area around it, especially for injured players.
  16. If it's just a contusion it'll be ok around then.
  17. Agreed. Plus, don't forget the initial 3-4 year curiosity period where attendance would be high just due to people wanting to check out the new park. A new park, if done properly, could be just as much of a cash cow as Wrigley. Let's not kid ourselves. I've always wondered what a cash cow looks like.
  18. Hey come one now, we are suppose to make Carlos sound like an evil money grubbing a-hole right now, there's no place for that talk :D. <3 Carlos Honestly do you think he'd say "I want my cash and the Cubs will pay or I'm gone" at the convention? Z knows this is business and that this is probably going to be the biggest deal of his career so he has to make the most of it and if that sounds like he's a money grubbing dude to some well you just can't please everybody. I don't blame him for trying to get as much as he can as I would do the same if I were in his position.
  19. Doesn't matter... I just want top two. That way the Sixers get Oden or Durant, both of whom would be really useful. Iguodala has really come on since the Iverson trade and could play the 2 or 3, and Durant can play the 3 or 4. Oden will just be really good, and who gives a crap about Dalembert - they'd find a place for Oden to play. Or just go big and be great defensively and on the boards. I just don't want the Sixers to draft 3rd and select that Michael Jackson-looking guy. Raisins buddy from Florida? I think you're stuck with the 3rd so it doesn't look like a fix Memphis or somebody else will be at 1 or 2 with the Celtics. By the way, the Sixers should come back home to Syracuse where they belong!
  20. I'll bet there will be a couple of them to match Zito's deal. If the Cubs do make this signing Mr. Hendry will have a lot of loose ends tied up by March. I'm also wondering if this deal happens if will do something with Jones? What would this type of deal put the Cubs 2007 payroll at? I don't think it will do anything this year. Zambrano would still be payed out per his current contract. The extension kicks in next year. Right? He's not signed for this year yet I thought and that's why they were going to arby?
  21. I think a nice NSBB on the door would have looked even better!

  23. some article (Daily Herald?) said Prior was ahead of Miller, who is in the long-toss phase of his rehab. didnt say where prior was, though. how is miller rehabbing? he was pitching in the big leagues in september? But not at 100%. few pitchers pitch at 100%. as far as i know teams dont rehab players (especially pitchers) in the majors. It also doesn't make sense that Miller was pitching in the majors in September and is only doing long toss now. That would be the case if he'd suffered another injury. Maybe. He might have came back early to prove he could pitch and earn a decent 2007 contract. He just might be taking it real slow but you're right it is possible he has had another setback.
  24. I thought Ramieriz was gone for sure. This one I'm not so sure of.
