  1. Bummer...I was hoping that they had an open audition for a guys off the street to try out against each other and the best guy would get a shot to make the team.
  2. Maybe a 3 year deal and the 3rd year has a mutual option? How old is he...32 or so? Catchers, if healthy, seem to be like leftys...somebody always wants one. Besides, wouldn't the ladies really hate it if he left?
  3. I was thinking about Perez and players like him this weekend. IMO, players like him need to play to be a 270/290 hitter and if he isn't he is a 210/240 guy. I think he needs the reps of hitting/playing constantly or he even gets worse at the plate. I really believe that some players are like that, if they don't get those AB's they just are no longer effective or in Perez's case, even worse than normal. I have always thought he would be a good 25th man of a roster but I've changed my thinking and I think it would be better off for the Tigers or any team to just release him unless you have a horrible fielding SS and use him only for defensive purposes at the end of the game and can afford a roster spot to do so.
  4. I'm getting ready for a deal in June...the Cubs get Finley and the Rockies get Veal.
  5. They haven't begun to think in those terms yet. That's disturbing that they haven't at least thought of it. We're talking about a guy with a 6.02 ERA last year. I can't believe that he'll be allowed to post those type of numbers for very long after all the "World Series or bust" talk this offseason. It would make those words ring hollow if they were willing to keep a player starting for no reason other than contract. Why in the world would they talk about that issue publicly to the media? No team signs a guy for three years and $21 million and then says, "What do we do if he sucks?" No team. You're right, there's no way a team will talk about that publicly. Why plant a negative seed in a player's mind? The Cubs fully anticipate Marquis being in their rotation and being effective. If that doesn't happen, they'll cross that bridge when they come to it. I want the Cubs to have 8 guys that look like they can flat out start and to give the Cubs a hard decision on what to do! This is the problem I want them to have.
  6. Way too many LL coaches are there to win and teaching correct fundamentals is an afterthought for many. Add to this they don't know what to look for or even how to teach it in many cases keeps these bad habits going way longer than they should. I hear way too many LL coaches spout out their w/l record and this means all the world to a great percentage of them which is not a good thing IMO. Plus, of course the coaches sons always making the All-Star teams even though sometimes they are some of the worst players on the team and the fact that the manager with the team with the best record gets to coach the All-Stars. What bothers me is the kid that pitches 6 innings and the next game he's at SS or even worse, catcher. If there are a few days in between that would be fine but if it's 2 days in a row or just one day off that just ain't good.
  7. I like a nice healthy competition and let's see where it takes the Cubs. I don't know a lot about Cotts but from what I've read he has a lot of potential and I'd love to see him step up and allow the Cubs to trade Eyre and or others for a SS prospect. That is as long as the Cubs have the depth to cover Cotts if he gets hurt or struggles a lot. Hey, if Cotts is lights out and continues to pitch like that starting wise it's going to create a nice problem to have.
  8. Very nice article Bruce. If Murton continues to do the things he's capable of good things will happen for him and the team. Does anyone know how Murtons stats compare to Lou's when he played?
  9. He's been in the league long enough to that he will likely produce +.10 or -.10 of his career numbers. The thing is he hasn't been healthy for two years. I predict: @ .270/.315/.360 Fangraphs has projections http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=656&position=3BSS Not putrid, but the Cubs need a lot better than not putrid performance. Hey I almost guessed that one right! My record now is 2 right and 5624 wrong! Thanks CiNY!
  10. Minor league career: .262/.297/.332/.629 Major league career: .259/.295/.336/.631 Eek...that's worse than I thought! He has sub written all over him, if that, thanks TT.
  11. Go to the "view your posts" in the right upper corner. Or don't you like it up there and would rather have it on the threads?
  12. You've exceeded your Geocities bandwidth, is there any way you could upload it to ImageShack or PhotoBucket so that the rest of us could see it? Sorry, the DVD is currently sold out.
  13. What is Izturis's minor league history? I know he was in Syracuse and he really didn't show me much that a 4 HR 270/310 type hitter. If he does have a great season with the glove it would be nice.
  14. Where can I order one!
  15. I suppose the wading is over for Cowboy fans.
  16. Has anyone affiliated with the team indicated anything like this? Rightly or wrongly, it seems like the club itself is feeling pretty good about having Izturis there. I'm hoping they know something that we don't know about Izturis.
  17. They can put a little pitch clock on top of the backstop and scoreboard like they do a shot clock on the backboard on each end.
  18. Since I'm more of a WHIP guy I'm surprised they don't have a CWHIP.
  19. What was that pitch that Estes used to throw that ended up on the street?
  20. Yeah and if the Cubs are getting good production out of all 4 it will be a wonderful problem to have.
  21. Thanks Vance and please keep posting this stuff! I like the fact that he has the confidence to want to be the guy and I hope he remains realistic on his abilities and his role on the Cubs.
  22. After a quick 1-2-3 inning! Or on the street behind him.
  23. I wouldn't assume that. They determined he was healthy enough to take a risk, not necessarily "very healthy". I agree and if he's having a fly ball hit to him I'm not too thrilled with him being flat footed like that. I wonder if there is pain in the achilles or calf/hamstring thus the flat foot approach. It kinda looks like he's lost the ball and is just standing there, I can't imagine anyone trying to field fly balls like that and still being able to get a quick, accurate throw off. He might be practicing calling off the CF...I hope.
  24. I thought they said Marshall was hurting? That doesn't mean he won't be around next year barring a trade. You're right, I was thinking now in ought 7. Z still not in with the 08 guys quite yet though.
